I just bought a house with a really nice home theater in it. I dont know the first thing about av equip. So Im asking for help. This is a list of what they left in the theater.
optima projector HD180
2 cerwin vega speakers in front of room model #'s E170.
2 polk audio speakers on the ceiling in the rear of the room model #'s fxi30
sub speaker is anthony gallo model TR-1
There is another thing called a panamax M4300-pm. I think that is only to plug stuff into.

My question is....
1. Should I scrap all that stuff and buy a home theater in a box? (onkyo s5400 or s8400)
2. just buy a receiver and blu ray to go along with what I already have?

My budget is $500 - $1,000 for this because we already spent so much on the house itself.

I'd start with what you have, and add the missing pieces, as you said a receiver and bluray player - also, no center channel speaker?
