I love buying high end crap! Last week I ordered the screen, projector, and all the B&W speakers...next decision is an amp/pre - so far I am leaning towards the Integra 80.3 and Emotiva XPA-5 Amp...

http://emotiva.com/xpa5.shtm

...however I've heard some rumblings that a new Integra pre may be coming shortly so I am waiting to hear if that is true - I am thinking it may be a 40.3.

Another thing I am investigating at this time is a remote and media center. I have a lot of CD's and DVD ripped and want to access these through a nice interface...I'm thinking either Apple TV or the Western Digital WD TV Live...thoughts?

for a remote I am thinking the Logitech Harmony 1100 - Looks like I can control my lighting with this as well.

That's all for now...painters come next week, carpeting after that...

Emotivas site shows their current processor as clearance so I would assume something new is coming out. I checked last night because I was looking for a new processor since my crapped the bed!

Interesting...I wonder if a new amp is coming this year as well, my luck is it will come out just as I receive mine!

Home Theater Build Week 6 - Life is full of surprises....we had some water in the basement a few years back so we wanted to fix any issues before we laid down the new carpet...when I ripped up the old carpet last night it was a little worst then I originally thought...but the good folks at Trotter are taking care of it! LOUD!

Man, that is a scary demo shot, seeing a jackhammer going in a room that's painted with trim up!

I bought a WD TV Live a couple weeks ago, so far so good - compared to XBMC, the UI is a little spartan, but its fairly plug and play. Netflix works well, as does Pandora. I also tried streaming 1080p rips from my HTPC, but got some stuttering because I configured the WD TV Live initially as wireless - will switch to wired in the next day or two (needed to get my fios router replaced, the one I had had a bum port, and I needed that extra port to wire to the WD TV Live, without adding another switch).

Hi Hefnell,
I am a happy Emotiva customer from Sydney Australia. I have a lot of their gear and am really happy with all of it. It's listed in my build thread. In any case, the XPA5 is a cracker of an amp and sounds amazing (particularly at the price point). The UMC1 is now pretty good since all the firmware releases. Mine is bug free. The replacement model coming out is the same except 3d capable. That will be the main difference. There is another processor on the Horizon, the XMC1 or the like. Will be circa 1000 dollars or more and is 3D capable with a better audio capacity. Having said that, I purchased the umc1 and the usp1 stereo preamp and the sound quality is really good. There is no firm release date on the XMC1 yet.
Cheers
Greg

Update time...well the drywall is all complete, floor work done, and carpet has been ordered! Paint comes next week as well as some more trim work...carpet installed end of week hopefully!

I also received my in wall B&W speakers and Epson 6010 Projector. Today I ordered an amp, an Outlaw 7700 (7x200W) and my Pre/Processor, an Integra 80.3...I also received word that my dual Rythmik subs are on the way...it will be another 2 weeks before my screen arrives.

One q for the thread...recommendations for a surge protector? I have 2 dedicated circuits, one 15 amp and one 20 amp (for the amp). I really cant afford 2 high end conditioners, i.e. Panamax. maybe one but I will need 2...thoughts?

I installed a whole house surge suppressor in the main electrical panel. It was only about 50 bucks and protects everything. Then to supplement the more important areas like electronics I plan on using power strips with surge suppression. Monoprice.com has some good ones for pretty cheap.

Gotta post an update...The new HT looks AWESOME! I still have some cabinet work to do - mainly the bar area - and some acoustical treatments...but so far it looks amazing, sounds fantastic, and great pq! I'll post some individual comments/videos on my components but here is a quick vid of the room build thus far..

Chris - nice space and congrats on the HT set up; real nice equipment. Wanted to get your thoughts/opinions on the Seymour screen/Jamestown frame and the Epson 6010 set up. I am probably going this same route. What's your viewing distance? Have you tried 3D content? What's good/bad?

Hi Chris! I've been reading your thread and according to the dates your HT suposed to be ready. I would like to know your opinion about yours ccm7.5 for surround and the rythmik subwoofer. Did you like them? I'm seting up a media room and the speakers are a pair of cm9, a cmc2, ccm7.5 for surround and a rythmik f12se. The amplifiers are all emotiva upa-1 monoblocks for l, r and center and upa-2 for the surrounds. I havent decided yet about the preamp but I'm thinking about new emotiva (not released yet) or marantz 7701. Projector epson 5010 or panasonic pt-ae8000. I haven't bought the subwoofer yet and would like to know if you really liked it. Thanks
