My wife and I recently moved into a new home in Tennessee, and decided to do something interesting for our home theater in the upstairs bonus room.
So here's my Pirate Themed Home Theater I've been working on since last October. Pics with my design and progress can be found on Facebook here:

Still have a good bit to do, but I'm hoping to be (mostly) done by sometime this summer...
My audio/video setup consists of a Samsung 67 DLP HDTV, Axiom "Grand Master" series speakers: two M22s, a VP100 center, four QS8 surrounds, and a EP175 sub, powered by a Pioneer VSX-1020 receiver.
very cool, very ambitious. i assume the walls are being painted in that pirate theme? are you doing that yourself or hiring an artist? also, how big of a space is it? from the rendering it looks like a very large space.
edit: i see that picture is a rendering of a larger theater under construction elsewhere. nevertheless.. BEST OF LUCK replicating that. the detail is incredible.
When I looked at the inspiration pic I thought to myself. "Self, there is no way he is going to go all out enough to make this look good and it is going to look a chinsy." I will go ahead and eat my own words cause you have by far exceeded what I thought would look good and your not even close to done with all your details. I look forward to seeing your progress.
I am just totally flabbergasted! It's amazing! The theme itself is already brilliant, but the details really pull it all together like your iron nail heads. Beautiful touch. The doors to the "booty" (i.e. blu-rays and DVDs) are awesome. Wish you lived in DFW so I could see it with my own eyes!

Race to the finish home theater buildhttp://www.avsforum.com/forum/19-ded...ter-build.html
my kids would be in aww by this room!
2 thoughts :
1) i predict you're going to be swapping out that TV for a 235 widescreen projector at some point but it looks fantastic how it is.
2) The only thought I had on additional details to really sell the pirate theme was big nasty looking wrought (sp?) iron hinges and handles on some of those side panels - they don't even have to be functional - just to get the look of it.
Congratulations on finishing and a job well-done! I'd like to nominate you for next month's Home Theater of the Month here on the AVS Forum!
This theater was indeed meant to be my own personal escape, and as such, there are several specific details that I wanted to be present!
+2 Dan a super impressive job you've done! It's so good I think some scenes in a real pirate movie could be shot there!
