Greetings!

My wife and I recently moved into a new home in Tennessee, and decided to do something interesting for our home theater in the upstairs bonus room.

So here's my Pirate Themed Home Theater I've been working on since last October. Pics with my design and progress can be found on Facebook here:
https://www.facebook.com/pages/Commander-Dans-Pirate-Home-Theater/137900416325087

YouTube videos here:
http://youtu.be/NZ5fb9c6e_U
http://youtu.be/RwakaCku_Eg

Still have a good bit to do, but I'm hoping to be (mostly) done by sometime this summer...

My audio/video setup consists of a Samsung 67 DLP HDTV, Axiom "Grand Master" series speakers: two M22s, a VP100 center, four QS8 surrounds, and a EP175 sub, powered by a Pioneer VSX-1020 receiver.

wow! that's an awesome rendering. if it ends up looking like that when it is finished, it will definitely be up there as one of the most unique spaces i've ever seen.

very cool, very ambitious. i assume the walls are being painted in that pirate theme? are you doing that yourself or hiring an artist? also, how big of a space is it? from the rendering it looks like a very large space.

edit: i see that picture is a rendering of a larger theater under construction elsewhere. nevertheless.. BEST OF LUCK replicating that. the detail is incredible.

Man, gotta take my hat off to you.... This is one ambitious build but looks like you have the skills and imagination to pull it off. Great to see some different ideas... Really taking your theatre to the next level. Are you planning on effective HVAC and sound isolation measures? Good luck and the YouTube videos are a winner. Cheers! Greg.

Construction is looking good. I'd just add a projector and acoustically transparent screen. You could gets your guests settled in watching trailers on the flat panel. Then make the room go almost dark and drop down the screen. They'd be floored when the projector fires up. Can't beat a big picture.

Surrounds - Easy as Pi

WOW . . . . . . . That is going to be amazing.... err correction... it is amazing. Like others I would definitely recommend a screen and pj. Also, I really hope you have a sound treatment plan with all that wood surfacing. I would imagine you would need quite a bit.

When I looked at the inspiration pic I thought to myself. "Self, there is no way he is going to go all out enough to make this look good and it is going to look a chinsy." I will go ahead and eat my own words cause you have by far exceeded what I thought would look good and your not even close to done with all your details. I look forward to seeing your progress.

I just clicked through the entire album, and I just cannot believe how awesome that is! eek.gifeek.gifeek.gifeek.gifeek.gifeek.gifeek.gifeek.gifeek.gif

I am just totally flabbergasted! It's amazing! The theme itself is already brilliant, but the details really pull it all together like your iron nail heads. Beautiful touch. The doors to the "booty" (i.e. blu-rays and DVDs) are awesome. Wish you lived in DFW so I could see it with my own eyes!

Many thanks for the compliments! The theater is about 95% completed at this point, with a few decorating details left to complete! I really should do another YouTube vlog soon!

attention to detail and ambiance on this is incredible.

2 thoughts :

1) i predict you're going to be swapping out that TV for a 235 widescreen projector at some point but it looks fantastic how it is.

2) The only thought I had on additional details to really sell the pirate theme was big nasty looking wrought (sp?) iron hinges and handles on some of those side panels - they don't even have to be functional - just to get the look of it.

I go to pirate fest in Clearwater area (Tampa) often- my dad has beach house in Madeira Beach. I've got a few photos of cool pirate themed stuff from the local area bars / restaurants/ retail. Ill take a look and see if I can post anything clever you might be interested in.

AWESOME job Commander Dan!!! I remember stumbling on this thread a little over a year ago and was very impressed with your work to that point. Extremely creative and you can tell the project was a true labor of love. I think my favorite feature is the windows with the oil painting you did in the Captain's quarters which has a really cool effect. But I could really name a bunch of other details that blew me away - the rope lines, the sail cloth, all of the lanterns, converting all of those wood buttons to look like hammered iron with your Dremel....the list goes on and on.

Congratulations on finishing and a job well-done! I'd like to nominate you for next month's Home Theater of the Month here on the AVS Forum!

This theater was indeed meant to be my own personal escape, and as such, there are several specific details that I wanted to be present!
