I originally had this thread in the General Home Theater Forum but decided to move it over here because it is more of a dedicated theater and because there is more traffic.

I am building this Theater at my girlfriends parent house in what was the old family room. The room is 15'2"X23".
This room will primarily used as a theater to watch movies, play xbox, and watch tv.

The room will feature a built in media center with a 106" acoustic transparent screen. (DIY CenterStage XD)

This is what I have planned for the Screen Wall. It will have four base cabinets, a electric fireplace insert, a dvd/bookshelf, and two display shelves for pictures ect. It will be built out of mdf for its cost and sound absorbing qualities.

Here is the Tentative Equipment list

Projector- Optoma Hd20
Receiver- Denon AVR-1912
Blu Ray Player- Panasonic DMP-BDT210
Game Consoles- Wii, Xbox 360
Remote- Logitech Harmony 1000

Speakers
LCR- BIC America PL-28
Side and Surrounds- BIC America Pl-66
SUB- BIC AMERICA V-80
Bass Shakers- AURA AST-2B-4
Bass Shakers Amp- Dayton Audio SA70

This is a TENTATIVE list and I would love input on what people think of this setup.

Now I will catch this thread up to my old one that I am not going to post on anymore. I am currently finishing the trim on the bookcase.

This is the first base cabinet frame, I used a pocket jig from harbor freight to build it. This jig is much better than the kreg one because it is all metal.

Another picture of the cabinet

Cant see the joints

This is with the shelves installed

My wood pile that I end up adding to every other day

Panels pre cut for the cabinets.

The wall to stage right of the screen

assembling a cabinet. You can see my pocket jig

General placement of cabinet.

View from back of room

Same spot turned left. The walls are actually a much darker color but the shades are open.

First 18"X30" built

Left Cabinets

Other two cabinets

The back wall used to be an exterior wall and I didnt want to have to try to run wires through it so I just built my own false wall, this is after it is built and I am running speaker wire.

Beginning of 7.1 outlet

myself running wires

Before I pulled the wires tight

Close up of box

First toe kick built

Close up of toe kick

4 base cabinets installed

DVD shelf built

Close up of face frame and wainscoting on shelf

Counter top installed

Joint by DVD shelf

Looking pretty good

Getting ready to stain

counter top stained

This is with the top cabinet in place

This is with the other top cabinet, and the header with lighting installed.

First cabinet door built

backside of door

Installed Plywood on back over r-30 insulation for soundproofing

Top header above right top cabinet

And now I am caught up to 3/21/2012. From the first picture to now took about a week and a half because I was on spring break last week so I had alot of spare time. Today I am waiting on the electricians to finish outlets and fix the can lights(previous electrician was an idiot). So please tell me what you think so far and any tips and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Unless you already have that Harmony 1000 there is no way I would buy it. It was plagued with issues from the get go and resulted in a class action law suit with 1000 owners being given an 890 because the 1000 never worked with Z-wave switches as had been promised. If you want that form factor then the 1100 is a better choice.

They are also supposedly releasing a new model called the 800 which features a qwerty keyboard, but no RF I believe.

I was not aware of this. Thank you for the advice, I just thought they changed the color and started charging more. I will order the 1100 instead.

Great job on the carpentry. Would love to have some decent pics to see the details, as opposed to phone shots, if that's what they are.

Does this chair have paint spilled on it?

Sorry I always have my iPhone on me and I can directly upload to photobucket but I will take some more detailed ones tomorrow now that the living room lights have been rewired.
And no it's not paint it's a foamish material and my girlfriends brother likes to pick at it.

The light gray is a cotton backing and the black is the top layer and it started cracking and he would peel pieces of it off with his fingers.

Looks good! I like the whole shelving concept.

I'm going to do something similar, but a little lower so I can get a bigger screen

I got the same Bostitch set for a wedding gift, thinking of building a bar myself as a trial run. I wish I had half the carpentry skills you do!

Thank you. I really like it too because I think it will draw yours eyes to that wall and still look good even when the screen is off. I originally was going to do a 120" screen but we will only be sitting around 12-13 feet away.

Yeah. Ours is going in a room that I don't want to look like a theater all the time. Office space, kids play room? ( kids? Gulp . . . )

Alright I haven't had a chance to post in the past couple of days so i am going to try to catch up a little bit. I also did not get to upload the pictures from my camera so there will be a couple more from my iPhone but after these I am switching to my camera. Since my last post I ordered and received the fireplace, built the box for it and installed it, began priming the cabinets and staining the cabinet doors.
The fireplace is a 28" ClassicFlame electric fireplace from electricfireplacesdirect.com it was $463.99 shipped no taxes

Fireplace mantel built

With fire on

First coat of stain on the doors

Again sorry for the quality. From now on it will be my digital camera
