Okay so i have been reading everything on here and my brain is on overload i know alot of people can relate. So 2 months ago my basement flooded just a little. I tore out all the carpet and did my own remediation. I already have someone coming to fix the bottom part of the drywall and paint. And then the carpet guys are coming in. This drywall and paint guys will be here in 2 weeks and i need to have a plan for the wiring and pj install. I just bought a optoma hd3300 and it came in yesterday. I have a ps3 ands thats about it. Let me attempt to post some room pics and explain what i was thinking and see what everyone thinks.

Okay so once i can post some pics i hope to show the room better. The room is about 24 x 12 with 8 ft ceilings. I was going to go with grey walls and carpet with a dark grey ceiling and black wall behind the screen. I wanted to go as big as i can with the screen without getting eye strain ect, I know alot of that depends on the person. I bought 5 klipsch in wall speakers off CL for a really good price and have a decent sub already. I was going to do a diy AT screen.

So the 24 x 12 is the the space is the rectangle area inside the pole and to the end of the couch in the pic so their is that angle spot behind it where i wanted to put a little bar area with some stools. I sort of set the furniture up just to show how i wanted it to look. I was going to build a platform for a couch and table and 2 recliners below off to the side some. I am not sure what type of receiver i would need to use 3d. I like the reviews i saw of the SONY STRDN-1030 RECEIVER on here. I saw some people saying the Denon AVR-4311CI was great just dont know if i want to spend that much money but if it is alot better i will.

draw a floor plan showing the measured distances for your seating and then locate the equipment rack, projector and speakers. From the picture it looks like your seating is too far from the screen wall. Plan the backs of the first row seats at 11-12 ft. Front of the bar 6 1/2 -7 ft behind that. (Assumes reclining seating)

Here is my open plan theater in a somewhat similar space

IMHO You should build your riser and bar before the carpet guys come in.

BIG, I am working on a similar floorplan and I plan on having the carpet put down prior to building the bar so that it can be removable from a resale standpoint if needed. Same with my riser. Thoughts on why I shouldn't?

Good advice Big i will push back the carpet guys. Now i have read some threads on wiring and think i am going to buy that ebook you helped with Big. I do still have the drywall and paint guys coming in and need to buy the wiring i will need. I was thinking about putting the eqpt rack in the left corner of the room. I would like to get some wiring done so the drywall guys can fix the holes i cut in the wall/ceiling. For the projector i was going to get a 25ft highspeed hdmi and some cat5e. The length of the speaker wire doesnt matter right? Where in NOVA are you BIG?

Some thoughts on the issue, a riser if built properly will leave permanent crush marks on the carpet so thinking you will remove it prior to resale may not be a perfect strategy.
If you are only planning to resell the house in less than 10 years there is some merit to making the carpet satisfy both needs, If you are staying longer than 10+ years the carpet may need to be replaced anyway at the time you get ready to sell.

Good advice on the cables! I was going to use monoprice and get the redmere 30ft high speed cables but they are out of stock and seem to keep pushing back the availability date. Do i need something special in a reciever for 3d? BIG the picture of your TR is one that i actually saw about a month ago and showed family and friends that i was going to make mine look like. How big is your screen?

I have used the 22AWG Monoprice cables (standard speed) for 3D (30' cable) and it works fine. I ended up using the Monoprice high speed 22AWG cable with my build and it works great. Another option is Blue Jeans cable. I also ran a couple CAT6 cables to the projector as well. Can't hurt smile.gif
