Zack Snyder tries to emulate a highly
Comic book experience with HUGE epic battles that strain effects budgets and they probabaly still cant reproduce that kind of ambition on film without an infinite budget.

I think the value of that comic book experience is highly subjective but I liked Watchmen a lot too.

It is what it is I suppose...

I grew up with a lot of very over-the-top japanese anime style action.

Fist of the North Star action of guys being punched through mountains is very prominent in Man of Steel as an example.

It is getting harder and harder to impress the public with action and things just get crazier and crazier with "comic-style" experiences.

Honestly I think sci-fi is better suited to HBO style serials where the story can be MUCH better fleshed out. The fact that movies are arbitrarily 1.5-3 hours is a limitations to a lot of great stories. Frank herbert's genuis books of "DUNE" are an example of material that id hard to "get right" on film.

I am honestly happy that hollywood continues to increase sci-fi budgets and hopefully the public keeps funding this... Since it's the genre I love most!

But when he, Nolan, and Goyer can't even get the Superman character correct or get a solid script together then they could spend a billion dollars for the effects and the film still wouldn't be any good. Like Ed Wood filming Plan 9 From Outerspace with infinite funds. biggrin.gif Oh wait... that was Lucas and his Star Wars prequels. tongue.gif

Listen up, studios! Just say "NO" to DNR and EE!!

In judging hollywood decisions, I might add that the average planet IQ is around 95 at best and therefore marketing to the "masses" will guide production for the rest of our lives.

They won't get too cerebral in movies a vast majority of the time... Even "art films" are rarely going into the nuances of real science. Almost all sci-fi is usually a dose of fantasy with a dose of pseudo-technology.

Getting back to thread topic, i havent seen the bass graphs for Man of Steel but I have a great bass response in my room and overall bass feels quite powerful. I suppose they could push the LFE even lower but all-in-all I am pretty impressed every time I watch.

Blazar,

Not sure what business you're in, but a decade of being in public safety and the medical field would leave me to think that 95 is being pretty generous😉

I'm a physician and my recent intellectual interest in IQ testing and global trends has led me to throw out that 95-ish number. Be aware that one can be an electrical engineer with a 90-100 IQ... so you can be very decent at one thing without being a genius.

Good point and very true. Nice to know we can relate. What field do you specialize in?

Critical care / pulmonary is usual thing. Its hard to be smart enough to be a doctor anymore. Another hundred years, either AI will take over or we will be augmented... Or some combination... Just to keep up. Either that or 99.9999% of the human race won't receive the current evidence based standard of care.

Sadly, there are already many who don't.

I was a 911 & Critical Care medic for seven years. It was always interesting to say the least, but it was time for a change. In the last few years I've shifted to the diagnostic side of things, radiology/MRI. I'm happier and less stressed, though miss the craziness in the field on occasion😁

Posting "voted" in a thread is not spamming as none of us are bulk posting or selling anything. We are all saying we voted about having an 11.1 system, which is on topic. I'm sorry that you are disturbed by that. You might want to just ignore those posts?

Do any of you 9.1/ 11.1 guys with perf screens have your heights and LCRs BOTH behind the screen or the heights above it?

There are more than a handful of [op amps] that sound so good that most designers want to be using them as opposed to discreet transistors. Dave Reich, Theta 2009

Nope. That would require that my screen be so large that the width would stretch beyond the width of the room, itself. So no. wink.gif

My LCR are all behind my AT screen but the heights are above the screen. I have nice, 10ft tall ceilings.
