Thanks guys! I appreciate the sentiments. Having a premie is an entirely different ballgame when it comes to a newborn, I can attest to that. We are not out of the woods yet and there are still some issues, but we are confident in the treatment path for both Mommy and baby.

Our new little man decided to come almost 5 weeks early (I suspect because he couldn't wait any longer to see the theater progress in-person). It has been touch and go for a while and many, many sleepless days and nights with around-the-clock care for both baby and mama, but both are now recovering at home.

Congratulations!

Not only am I ahead of you in my build thread........................but I'm also in front of you in terms of: first grandchild born two weeks ago! Weathered rough Minneapolis weather to experience fact old age has come to my doorstep!

Yup.... With my crew in Prague a few months ago, and a sweet store owner was outside handing out tasters....."ladies, would your DAD like some too?" ..... cue much hilarity from the girls.....

"No, no. We're stewardesses, and he's our boss!"

"Oh, so you're chief steward?"

"Mate, when you hit the bottom, just stop digging. OK?"

More hilarity from the crew.....

It may be true that I am old enough to be their dad. It may even be true that I look old enough to be their dad. That does not mean I want to be reminded of it!

Rough Mechanical Rework, part 2

Thought I would post a few pictures to show how all the rough mechanicals transitioned through the theater entrance wall.

First, I test-fit the piece I cut off to 'clamshell' around the drain pipe:

I wasn't happy with the gap on the right side of this piece, which could have been closer to the plywood blocking. Here is another angle with the new piece in-place with virtually no gap:

This was the original piece before I decided to remake it to reduce all gaps. I wrapped the drain pipe with 3/4" pipe wrap, splayed open so the outside of the pipe wrap was against the drain pipe.

I adjusted my drywall piece based on the new measurements to get a very tight fit:

I caulked all saw kerf gaps, used a boatload of Green Glue and then attached the piece. All the seams were overlapping, though not by much. I peeled off the sticky adhesive back to the pipe wrap and folded it back to the drywall to act as a sealed double layer rubber gasket:

Plumbing supply pipes wrapped with rubber pipe wrap and any remaining gaps caulked. Gap against the plywood caulked to full depth on both sides of the wall. Drilled a hole for the 2" Carlon conduit which will be sealed with acoustic caulking. I will be drilling one final hole just above this orange conduit for all the current low voltage wires running to the 4 rear 18" subs, the rear speakers, Atmos channels, seat Buttkickers, projector, etc. It will be quite a bundle of wires and I didn't want to use any conduit space when everything was wide open. It is likely the conduit will go unused, but glad to know I have it just in case I ever need a wire from the equipment rack to the projector area.

Next up, HVAC line sets, electrical and gas line re-work on the other side of the theater....

No half-measures there. That's a load of work in the name of isolation and increased mass.

I'm sure it'll be worth it.

NEED OPINIONS - New marquee design

Thought I would put this out to the AVS community for opinions.

Here is my current marquee with the different technology logos underneath (and a bit of construction inspiration from @dlbeck )

I had this made at a time when Dolby said their Atmos technology was not going to be available for the residential market. I am 100% confident my inclusion of their earliest commercial cinema logo with tagline for my residential theater completely changed their mind, so you can thank me later.

Anyhow, fast forward 3+ years and here we are with Dolby Atmos, Dolby Vision, DTS-X and Auro-3D technologies. So I had the company create a couple different insert mock-ups and would like to hear your opinion.

Option 1: Updated string of logos, "This Theater Features" in one text line. Auro-3D logo will not fit:

Option 2: Updated string of logos, "This Theater Features" text stacked in two lines, making room for the Auro-3D logo:

Option 3: Updated string of logos, all other text deleted for an ultra-clean look - thanks @lovingdvd

But wait, there's more! Another opinion needed...

Dolby Atmos has two similar yet different "official" logos. One is more in line with the Dolby Vision logo and the other is not.

Here's the one currently on the mock-ups above:

Here's the alternate logo that matches the style of the Dolby Vision logo:

Thoughts / preferences on one logo vs. the other?

And technically speaking, if I went with Option 3 I would have room to add back in the 3D logo that's on my current sign and add the new Ultra HD Premium logo which was just released earlier this year. The logo would obviously be inversed to jive with the black background:

Thanks in advance for your opinions!

Thanks! Nothing would be worse than ripping out your theater mid-construction and taking half-measures during the redo, so I am going all-out every step of the way to the best of my budget and ability.

I like option 3 as well, but there is something nice about the nostalgia of the "Enjoy the show!" If you keep those remarks, they need to be the same font, IMO. Also, I would require the symmetry of 2 over 1 - I need the logos to be centered.

I like option 3 with either Atmos logo, though I was leaning toward the one with the text that comes out of the circle. Add the ultraHD one too.

I guess I'm in the minority here, but I like options one and two better than the third. They look more authentic to me and give a little more info to a visitor who may know nothing about theater technologies.

Another revision of Option 3. This has the incorrect 3D logo (I like the one on my sign as it stands today) but adds in the Ultra HD Premium and slightly enlarges the physical size of each of the logos. My personal feedback is all the logos to be evenly spaced across the bottom and perhaps a slight re-sequencing, but it looks good. Options 1 and 2 have no further flexibility in their designs to add or move anything.

I plan to pull the trigger next Tuesday, so keep the feedback coming.

I should have some time over the weekend to post up the extensive mechanical rework on the back right of the theater room. To refresh your memory, here is the before.

I think you'll find the 'after' unrecognizable....

Have a great weekend everyone!

I like Option 3.1, and agree with a little more spacing and shuffling of the logos.
For nostalgia the "classic" text is nice but the logos imply that those features are well.... featured. As far as enjoy the show.... you know their going to

Thanks for the feedback. I agree and like the "Enjoy The Show" text but don't like how symmetry is lost if the "This Theater Presents" is removed. The more I look at it the more I am leaning toward Option 3. A final mock up with the justified spacing between the logos will be available on Monday, so I'll post when I can.

Great question. Technically any of the processors I am considering will have Auro-3D capability. One has speaker remapping technology. And I will be wiring for an Auro-3D VOG because I'll never have the opportunity to go back and run it. I know the technology has a steep uphill climb when competing with Dolby and DTS, but I'd rather have the wire in the ceiling vs. not.

Toward the beginning of this thread I have a few original hand-drawn sketches which have some visual elements....but all of that has completely changed. The functional design from Erskine cannot be posted as per contract. I have some partially completed renders posted in this thread, but I haven't posted the finished renders yet.....because they aren't finished. I'm working on it, though. Hopefully soon.
