This is going to be a slow process but I thought I would start from the beginning. Theater / Flex room will be in the basement of a 1918 Michigan farm house. Room is approximately 27' x 13'.
I'll post up pics tonight of where I'm starting.
But first up I have a question regarding sound treatment of the perimeter walls.
3 + 1/4 of the walls are the perimeter walls of the basement. I have 2" XPS to install and will use 2" Z channel during the installation to allow me a place to secure my sofit framing on the East wall.
My intent is to come over the top of the XPS with 1 5/8 or 2 1/2 metal framing then gyp board.
If the ceiling is installed first, is decoupled, insulated, and sealed at the perimeter.
Do I need batt insulation within the metal studs?
Is there any benefit of installing resilient channel on the studs of the perimeter where I have the block?
The partition in the middle of the basement is intended to be a double stud wall. That I can address later, I just have to move forward with part of this to get the XPS installed and out of the way.
