I'd say most anything is more fun with OPM.

Not to be confused with OPP. Just saying.

Update

Tuesday I drove up to NYGF23's place and we worked on some last minute pre-drywall items including putting up some plywood as the first layer for the projector mount.

Wednesday was the first drywall day and of course that was my excuse for some extra fuel, Fat and cholesterol at the free hot breakfast bar at the hotel:

NYGF23 found a local drywall company which was one guy, his truck, some scaffolding and over 20 years of experience. Best part was he never once said do you think this channel can hold all this weight and didn't have to be reminded to use the right length screws. An old buddy of NYGF23 also showed up who is planning his own theater and lent a hand.

Thursday more drywall so more fuel

End of day progress.

NYGF23 got a chance to get involved and often was putting on the Green Goo while I was cutting the sheets and our Drywall guy was screwing.

End of day today NYGF23 taking in the progress, asking about whether the GG will come off his work pants and thinking about what his life will be like in his first Home theater.

Good observation, I cant even say that is my brother in that picture because Big knows the truth.. Yes that is clearly me with a JETS hoodie on. I am a true Giants fan, but I just so happen to be from a state with 3 teams and I support them all. I reside in Maryland now, but I am not a Ravens fan... at least not yet Lol..

Dry walling sucks!! Having to do it twice sucks even more. Although my input was limited, I still did enough to know that I would not like to do it again.

I used to think the Jets were OK, but I didn't really like they way they handled Tim Tebow. I mean, why hire the guy if you aren't going to commit to using him? Made Rex Ryan look like an idiot in my opinion, but I digress.

So how do you like those Alpha 8 Minions? I was going to get the Fusion 8 Alchemy's, which you originally said you were getting, but you switched it up at the last minute. I'm guessing it's because the Minion has a little more robust woofer with more bottom-end potential (Xmax esp). I'm in the position to build a pair of either one. I'm leaning toward the Alchemys since I will eventually need 4 and that will save me $164, and I like what I saw about Jeff's crossover design.

It is amazing how much difference the drywall makes, isn't it?

Good work so far guys, it is coming along quickly now.

Drywall sure does change a room, no doubt. Excellent progress gentlemen, keep it up and you will soon have a place where you can actually put those speakers Big built in!

I'm new to AVS but have been studying diligently in the background for months while our builder finishes constructing our house in MD around the site of my future basement HT. I'm curious why you chose to frame with single stud construction 16" OC + DD +GG + IB3 clips. I'm figuring that is an STC in the 40's along the concrete walls where there is no outer layer of drywall and STC 52 on the inner walls towards the rest of the basement. Was staggered stud more sound isolation than you thought you needed? Was code keeping you from doing 24" OC? Other builds have suggested that noise along the concrete wall can flank up to the floor above. Do you think they are making more out of this than it really is? I'm just asking these types of questions because I will have a very similar build with two I-beams running through it. Any help is greatly appreciated and will go a long way towards influencing my build. Thanks for all the help. smile.gif

Flanking certainly is an issue you can't go cheap on the exterior walls., yes staggered was considered determined as overkill for the situation. Not a fan of 24OC when attaching sheets vertically.

Didn't even have to go to France.

Finished drywalling on the outer walls then tackled the beam

Used the smallest profile possible for the ladders on each side of beam. 1 5/8 steel pro-trak, 2x4 turned flat. Built on the ground and screwed to the channel directly above. Two layers of 5/8 Drywall, caulk and Green glue for the bottoms and sides.

Drywall cutting, NYGF23 really hates drywall now after his first two cuts missed the mark. But after a half a dozen cuts he passed his apprenticeship and is ready to tackle the perimeter soffits.

Beam buttoned up
