Hope this is posted in the right spot. Long story short, my parents purchased a home with an already complete (at least to my eye) dedicated theatre build. What I don't know is what to do now to properly equip this room. There is no audio setup yet, but the cables are all in place.
The first issue to start things out is what to do about a projector. I'm looking at something ideally less than $2,000. Although closer to $1000 would be great since I'm not sure I would really be able to tell the difference between the really expensive stuff at this point so maybe I can update it later. This will be used only in this dedicated space (I don't need to worry about something that will be bright enough for a bright room). Ideally as much bang for the buck as possible. Some light gaming and 3d, but probably 90% of the time will be 2D movie watching. I haven't seen the rainbow effect that people discuss so I'm not sure if that should be a concern yet. I do want something with long lamp life as that seems to be important for keeping longterm costs down.
My first confusion is that the screen ratio seems to be ~2.35/2.4 (~111"X48" fixed screen). What do I need to look for given my space and that I have a dedicated shelf 71" high and 198" from the screen? Do I need something that will do lens shift or is this going to be close to spot on? Will I need to move it if I watch at 16:9?
Any comments in general about what should be going through my head? If you had this space what would you do for a projector?
Any help is appreciated, this is new territory for me.
