I haven't been able to find Linacoustic locally, so I've started looking for alternatives. The local supply house sales Certainteed products, and specifically they have ToughGard 2, but I'm having trouble finding the data on it. Here's the only spec sheet I've been able to find online. The NRC value is a little lower than Linacoustic, but they don't have the absorption per frequency table in the flier.

Here's the info from Bob's site

ToughGard2.... | 0.14 | 0.29 | 0.55 | 0.77 | 0.94 | 0.97 | 0.65
Linacoustic RC | 0.08 | 0.31 | 0.64 | 0.84 | 0.97 | 1.03 | 0.70
Insul-SHIELD.. | 0.09 | 0.29 | 0.67 | 0.89 | 1.03 | 0.99 | 0.70
O.C. QuietR.... | 0.05 | 0.30 | 0.60 | 0.87 | 0.98 | 1.05 | 0.70

The toughGard doesn't seem to performs as well at higher frequencies, but I have no idea what is acceptable and what isn't. Also, my local supply house wants $212 for a 100' roll, so it's a bit on the pricey side.

Dude, are you made of leprechauns? Cause that was awesome!

I ended up going with toughguard R which I was told is a near equivalent to linacoustic. If you look at the product page it states that it is very similar to toughguard 2. I dont know the specifics though. It cost me about 160-175 for the roll.

It looks like Certainteed makes a ToughGard R, a ToughGard T, and apparently a ToughGard 2 which I can't find on their site. It looks like the ToughGard R is the best performer, but they don't carry it here. I asked if they could order it, and they said they only work in wholesale, and it didn't make sense for them to order just one roll.

Wouldn't you know it, looks like ToughGard2 has been renamed ToughGard T. I'd still prefer it to be the TouhGard R.

I ordered mine from Bay Insulation here in KC. Not sure what shipping would be. It is pretty light actually.

Certainteed also has a product called CertaPro Acoustablanket Black. I didn't use this product, but was able to find it locally for $175 for a 100' roll.

You might also see if your supplier carries Knauf products. Knauf Sonic XP was also available in my area for $175. If I was doing my room again, I would use this stuff since it doesn't contain any formaldehyde.

Are you having trouble finding Johns Manville products or just Linacoustic? I bought what I thought was Linacoustic but it wound up being a very similar Johns Manville product called JM Ductliner PM. That might be another option for you.

No luck finding Johns Manville products locally. The closest distributor is 100 miles away. That's not too bad, but once I factor in the cost of gas, it drives the price up a bit.

The only supply house I've been able to find locally only carries the one CertainTeed duct liner. I asked about several alternatives, but the ToughGard is the only thing they carry, and are not willing to special order anything for a one-time purchase. It's actually yet to be seen if they'll even sell me the ToughGard. I'm checking around to see if I can find anyone else within 20 or 30 miles.

I found the Owens Corning QuietR duct liner just a little further away. I added its specs to the first post. It falls somewhere between the ToughGard and the Linacoustic.

With the closest on the far side of Birmingham, that may not work out terribly well - though J_P_A says he's willing to drive some.... that's more than 2 hours one way.

J_P_A, maybe you should have built in Tuscaloosa instead.

I looked at those, and thought it was a bit further than I'd hoped to go. I hate being the guy that keeps saying that won't work when people are helping out, though smile.gif

These guys are wholesale, but surely they can suggest a reasonable retailer they supply - I would think.

Well, I finally found some Linacoustic. Here's a pic if you want proof!

It's a bit of a convoluted story, but here's the abbreviated version. The local Wittichen only carried the ToughGard, and not only that, but they WOULD NOT sale it to me directly. I finally decided to get a local contractor to pick it up for me, and I'd buy it from them. Sadly, they saw an opportunity to make $30 for driving about 100 yards. So I started looking around again. Originally I didn't bother calling the Wittichen that's about 30 miles away because I figured they'd sale ToughGard as well, and I assumed that not selling directly to the public was a company wide policy. Turns out I was wrong on both accounts. So, after a couple phone calls, I made the 45 minute drive and picked up a roll. I even made the trip in the rain because I was afraid they'd change their mind before I could get there.

It ended up costing $212 plus gas, but it's worth it just to have this part out of the way.
