What is a good recommended distance between the ceiling and the top of the screen?

If I wanted to put it very close to the ceiling should the ceiling be painted black?

Thank you.

Also, would I need a 2" velvet border around the screen is the wall will be black?

Flat black on the ceiling would be ideal, but other dark colors would work as well. The closer you get to the ceiling, the more reflections you are going to experience, so maintain as much separation as possible while still maintaining your sight lines. You might even want to install a black velvet panel on the ceiling in the area directly above the screen if you can't maintain much separation and you find the reflections to be too distracting.

A velvet-wrapped frame around the screen is preferred. This stuff is some of the blackest and cheapest.
