Heh, the reality is I don't drink beer. I work there and actually had enough time to leave for work after unloading. The beer is for the guests!

So what do you drink since you don't take advantage of brewery perks?

Those look sweet Rocco! You don't really look like those would've been much of a struggle. Did you just throw one on each shoulder and lug them downstairs?

I have a inconvenient (not anaphylaxis) allergy to wheat, so that rules out most things beer. I can drink Johnny Appleseed and others, like the Rita brands. I'm a big tequila fan so I'll drink that most often. Total, I might indulge once a month. I'm way too busy to drink usually!

I might have been able to make it look easy if not for the lack of handles anywhere, I i had to bear hug waddle the first. My basement is down a hill and I lost my balance and fell and busted the bottom corner of one on the concrete patio. After that I got smart and took 2 long scrap pieces of plywood and slid them on the plywood. They're 150lbs without the horn! Beastly solid cabinets for very tight bass.

When you come to check it out I'll throw you some beer if you want.

Cheers to tequila! love me some tequila! I don't really drink that often these days. Just special occasions or when I have completed a project at work and feel accomplished.

I really should be done after this. I mean, for a while. If 4k really does start releasing titles, maybe my 5 year plan is to upgrade my PJ and receiver and Blu-Ray/whatever is next.

my cals were pretty accurate on distances, except the one surround. i'll cut a board to sit on the couch and reline the other chair next time to get it perfect. I'm running an xpa for mains and upa for surrounds, so i understand the gain difference. i'm using some 16ft rca for RCL right now, and there's a bit of noise. i have 10ft xlr on order currently. Also, rushed the cal so we could watch a movie before bedtime. going to redo the front panels as i had to move the equipment now too.

I know the picture doesn't show it too well, but i have mounted bass traps in the corners of the front wall, and roughly (very roughly) attached 705/703 to the front wall with some of those insulation pins and used all the scrap pieces of cloth leftover to mask it in black. i also stapled the cloth to the wall to help support everything. IRL it looks like crap, but i never built the room for looks anyway and it's behind the screen.

Just had Jeff @ accucal calibrate audio and video. I am insanely impressed. The video improvements along are superb and his parametric tuning of the subs was spot on. Watched the new transformers last night and I think I enjoyed the quality so much I forgot to actually watch the movie.

Nice. Besides the projector, what did he calibrate?

Put a MINIDSP on the 2 subs I got, manual eq of all channels. He suggested a better position of the subs from where I had them. I can honestly say I prefer the solid "punchy" midbass of the quad 15" in my mains to the heavy sub-bass of the hsu. It felt like I had a had a buttkicker in my seat during some fight scenes.

Mmm...quad 15s.

So what's used to manually EQ the other channels, another minidsp?

That's awesome. I've been thinking about doing this eventually. I know they have different packages, what all was included in yours and what kind of budget are we talking? You can pm me if you'd prefer.

oh the info is on his webpage, and he makes tours so you gotta schedule way in advance. I can attest he knows his stuff and my theater looks and sound amazing.

http://www.accucalhd.com/

i got the $450 package, and it was a bit more for travel fee and setting up the parametric eq.

Man, for audio AND video that's not bad. I've heard of just video cal alone costing that.

Wow great job! Looks amazing! I enjoyed reading the thread...I'm about to start building mine and want to do the panels. I might have missed it but what's inside each fabric covered frame? Thanks.

I found a local place that sells 705frk and 703. I would have bought Roxul if it was close. This stuff is shipping prohibitive and very large! Depending on location I used one or the other or even peeled the insulation from 705 to make it absorb more.

Ceiling bass trap was entirely 705 and i Peeled paper from 1st reflection points.
Side/back wall floor/ceiling pieces are all 705 frk. The center pieces are all 703. The surround columns are 705 with the paper facing forward towards the room only. The soffits are all 705frk paper side down. I have bass traps in every corner and free standing on back wall. The front wall has 705 behind the speakers and 705 everywhere else.

If I could make a suggestion for building use staggered edges, make you main peices exactly the interior diameter of the material (2x4) so most will only need to be cut once or not at all. Sand all edges, and buy a good compressor/nail gun/ pneumatic stapler. I got the Rigid brand oil-less stuff because Home Depot would replace if it broke, but I went through 10,000 staples and 5,0000 nails without issue. In retrospect, I might have purchased a narrow crown stapler instead, but the panels are pretty darn strong. I even put a hinge on one and it gives acess to my equipment under the screen.

Ok great thanks. So by making the frames the exact size, 2x4, do you just let the panels fit in flush or do you attach them?

Yeah the inner size 2x4 so the panels don't have to be cut. Also combination of a friction fit and Velcro held them in. Buy good paint for the walls so the Velcro has something to stick to.

Yeah, you got a long road ahead. I broke down and let a contractor do the last 15%, and had to repair or redo 3 of the panels he made because I'm ocd.
