White Oaks Cinema House and Theater Build- A BIGmouthinDC Build
This thread is a long time coming. I just started building a new house and have been planning this day for a long, long time. I have always dreamed of a dedicated theater and to design and build something without any limitations (except for unlimited funds
). I bought a house 6 years ago and turned one of the bedrooms into a theater (build thread link below) and I started drawing plans for this house shortly after we moved in. The bedroom/theater was on the second level of the old house and I always wanted a dedicated room on the main level. That is one of the main reasons we decided to build. You rarely see a home with space on the main level for a theater. I started working on the floorplan and went through hundreds of revisions until we finally finalized them about 3 months ago.
The house will not be done until May/June but I wanted to create a build thread to document the progress of the house build as well as the theater build. Some of the most memorable threads I have read on here have been house builds along with the theater. I just went through and read my build thread from 6 years ago and it was pretty neat catching up on the process for the theater. Anyway, I plan to have the builder finish out the room with clips, hat channel, double drywall with green glue and that is pretty much it. I have been in touch with BIGmouthinDC and plan to enlist his help/expertise on the theater. I am really excited about that part! I have been planning this house/theater for 10+ years. It is going to be a fun ride!

This theater could not have been possible without so many people’s help and expertise. I wanted to recognize and give a special thank you to the following:
My builder Michael Allen Homes – Michael and Chris, you were amazing throughout the whole process and thank you for putting up with all of my requests about the theater room during the construction process.
BigMouthinDC- Jeff, Thank you so much for all of your planning, work and vision to help make this theater what it is. I really enjoyed getting to know you and working with you over those 2-3 months. If there is one person I couldn’t have done without it would definitely be you. Hopefully if you are down south you can come by and watch a movie and see your hard work in action. THANK YOU!
My wife- The best painter in Auburn. She painted probably 75% of the room and lobby and did a great job. Not to mention all of the times I needed a second set of hands and she was willing to help. She heard some new cuss words quite a few different times. haha
@Electrodynamic Nick at Stereo Integrity- You made my bass dreams come true. Nick was awesome to deal with. I probably sent him 50+ emails and he was always great at answering my questions. Thanks for taking the time through texts, calls and emails to go above and beyond with everything. I really appreciate everything! SI and Nick were truly a pleasure to deal with.
@rsh Roman with RT Theaters- Great service and even better theater chairs. I had an issue with one of the cup holders and sent Roman an email on Saturday. I got a call about 5 minutes later with some troubleshooting ideas. It was a bad cup holder and he sent one out first thing Monday morning.
John at Full Compass- Thank you for the amazing deals on the JBL’s, all of the amps and great, fast service.
@snickers1 Rich at Falcon Screens- The screen is fantastic and I appreciate you taking the time and going the extra mile with several of the requests. Thank you Rich!
Cyr at FOSI.com- Thanks for all of your work and help on the star ceiling. I think it turned out great and really appreciate you going out of your way to see that it got done correctly.
@J_P_A- I could not have finished the Volt-10’s without you! I appreciate all your help and still owe you! I can’t wait to check out your theater once it is finished. P.S. I told you I would be finished before you.
@beyond- Thanks for coming over and helping out during the build process. It was great to have another set of hands and appreciate it! I am looking forward to seeing your room!
@Erich H - diysoundgroup.com- Thanks for saving me a ton of money on some awesome surround speakers. You do not get enough credit for all you do for the DIY community here. The Volt’s are one of the best values around. Thank you for making that happen.
@Mike Garrett at AV Science Sales- Thanks for the great deal on the projector and for answering all of my questions. If you need anything check with Mike. He will take care of you.
I am sure I left a lot of people off and I apologize in advance for that.
