I could use some ideas on what to do for rear speakers in my ht. Due to its small size 8x18 with 8' ceiling Im rather limited in regards to placement. The room is to narrow for columns and I decided not to build sofits otherwise when standing on the seat riser heads would have been hitting them.
My plan is to use diy sound group fusion 10s for the front and center speakers behind the at screen. I could probably fit 8" fusions speakers in the ceiling joist pointing down in rear of the room for 5.1. Would this work or would having them pointing down ruin the sound?
I'm open to suggestions as I haven't even ran wire yet.

That size, I think you could go 5.1 or 6.1, no need for 7.1 in that narrow of room.
Where is your seating? One row or 2?
I am not a fan of in-ceiling, much prefer in-wall, but in-ceiling can work for surround.

I will have two rows of seating with the rear row only about 1/2' off the rear wall.
I agree and will go with 5.1 surround.
Thanks for the reply.

How far will the back row be off the rear wall?
I had a great 7.1 (actually 2) set up in a room 19' deep.
If your seat is in the front row go 7.1 with the L&R surrounds at 90° (I prefer 87.5° with QS8 surrounds).
For what its worth I'm considering placing my QS4's as my L&R surrounds because my new room is 11 feet deeper. The 4's are good on their own own and I'd like a bit more from my rear surrounds.

I think I have settled on the idea of mounting the surrounds in an angled enclosure up high on the wall
I have seen some nice enclosures for diy just need to figure out speakers and go from there.

Did you decide on 5.1 or 7.1?

I'm going with 5.1 or maybe 5.2.
