Hello,

I am the Executive Director of an American Sign language theatre company here in Montreal, Quebec. We are thinking about using rear projection as our set for our next production. I am a complete newbie to this, so please help me out!

We are looking at buying 3 projectors using the mirror reflection method (considering our space is limited). We are also building our own screens.

Here is a picture of what our theatre looks like, I drew in what we think should be feasible (we need to work out the math, however).

I would like to consult your expert opinions.

Is what I drew feasible considering the space of the theatre?

If I want the height of the screens to be around 3 metres tall X 2 metres wide and (3 in total), what kind of projectors (specs) will I need, and how far would the space behind the screens need to be? Would the mirrors work?

I've been doing some research on this and my knowledge is very scattered.

Thank you in advance!

Just a quick thought on this project. If you could make the screens in the 16:9 ratio then you will greatly reduce the hassle of scaling the images through the entire production process to fit a 3:2 screen. Then if you can make the mirror throw distance work, any number of home theater projectors turned on their sides might do the job. You could then simply capture images with the camera turned on its side.

the images would need to be 3M tall x 1.68M wide.
