I'm looking at making a 17 meter run of LED strip lights to go around the permitter of a room.

I have already purchased the following:
4 x 5m RGB 5050 rolls (60 LEDs per meter).

My plan is to chop off the 3m of excess that I don't need.

In terms of power requirements:
(60 LEDs per meter = 14.4 Watts) x 17 meters = 244.8 Watts.

If I buy a 360 Watt controller (such as http://www.pingwarrah.com.au/12v-30a-360w-ir-controller-for-rgb-led-light-lighting-strip-3528-p-1100.html) and a 360Watt power supply (such as http://www.pingwarrah.com.au/12v-30a-360w-dc-switch-power-supply-driver-for-led-strip-light-a-p-1106.html) and then...

...buy a 1 into 3 connector (such as http://www.pingwarrah.com.au/1-to-3-rgb-extension-cable-connector-male-female-for-3528-5050-l-p-1088.html) and then...

...connect to 1 of the 3 outputs -> 5m -> 3.5m and
connect to the 2 of 3 output -> 5m -> 3.5m

Will this work? Am I likely to see any drop in brightness over those lengths? Is this dangerous or fairly straight forward?

Two things you are missing - resistance per meter and how far your initial leader cable will be (if any).

Your plan is not dangerous, but it is left to be seen if you would experience a drop in brightness toward the end of each strip, pending answers to the above questions.

May I ask where you sourced your LED strips and whether you are happy with your purchase? I have a similar project in mind for later this month and need to get something ordered ASAP.
