Just went over Big’s mechanical-move checklist with the owner of the HVAC company, and he’s on board and understands what must be done. I’ll be down there knocking down that fourth wall when they remove the fixtures and move to the mechanicals move, so I’ll be sure to keep an eye on what’s going on. Tomorrow’s the big day! I can’t wait. After this, it’s full steam ahead.
I also have an electrician coming tomorrow to let me know what will be required for me to run another 100 or 200 amps to the house. The cable coming to the house might be large enough to handle another 100 or 200 amps, so adding the service should be a few hundred bucks, BUT, if it’s not that simple and new cable needs to be run through the yard, then that’s $4k-$5k that I refuse to spend, and I will promptly sell my Emotiva XPR-1 Monoblocks…
Also, I closed the listing for the 600ES. I got a bunch of lowball offers and unresponsive prospective buyers, so I took this as a sign to just hold on to the projector. If the 600ES gets outdated at CEDIA, then I’ll get the latest and greatest (I can't help myself anyway) and use the 600ES for 3D, gaming, and all other non-movie sources. It’s a heck of a projector.
I have seen the exact same thing when my bank was "purchased", and when, for example, Audiogon was purchased (talk about a screw up the customer job!!!!!!)
Moving backwards is progress if you turn 180 degrees !!
I have a feeling this new format will diminish AVS traffic
That being said, I hate this new format. The old format was simple and used space efficiently. The "Prettier" the forum layout usually, the worse the message boards are to actually read/use most of the time. Except for Reddit, which is the worst looking thing ever.
Signatures are also horrid now.

What appears to have happened was a rush to completion of the sale with little to no thought on the impact to the user. CLASSIC corporate move. The site is no longer run by audio/video enthusiasts but a bunch of profit driven business people.
Had they taken their time, done some serious planning, done some beta testing and some serious evaluation, they could have 95% of all of the complaints ironed out before they made the transition.
Corporate America at its finest !!!
What a joke!!
Pictures make threads better IMO. It should be simple to post a picture, especially from a tablet or smart phone. Just click the "picture" icon, select the picture you want to post and click submit. Done. It should format and size automatically. Nothing else should be needed.
yep it is not great what i ended doing is uploading my pics to my photbukcet account then embadded them
now this is a room that you do some Damage with for sure
it is easier anyway
@ Beast - nice embed job I like seeing your pics. Even if the process is less ideal don't stop posting them!
They started with this:
They got to work quickly:
They got the HVAC out of the way so they could work on the electrical and re-running of the water-heater pipes, and add external combustion air to eliminate the need for a louvered door:
Then they turned the support blocks for the soffit sideways to make room for an 8" return to the lobby area right next to a supply trunk, which means I can now finish the storage room (equipment room or lounge? Maybe I'll start a poll and let AVS decide):
I got to work on demoing the last wall of the bathroom while they worked, so they could ask questions. Big was right--being present during the work was CRITICAL. Otherwise, I would have had all kinds of things hanging below joists.
The final product (the studs on the right are still there because it looks like they support the soffit. I'll get rid of them once I have Dr. BigMouthInDC takes a look at them up close and provide a diagnosis):
With 30" in front of the innermost point of the mechanical cluster, the following items are true:
FINAL USABLE DIMENSIONS BEFORE FRAMING: 17.5' x 30'
WELL WORTH THE EFFORT AND THE COST!!
I think your biggest obstacle you have is the focus on your camera
Ah, the camera....is my half-dead Samsung Galaxy S3 with cracked screen (dropped it face-down into concrete right after basement demo). The camera has focus issues in low light
Edit: I just found my 45 gajillipixel Sony Cybershot camera...I'll be putting that to use from now on!

So now that you have pulled the trigger on the big theater space, are you now going to re-open the argument of wiring for Atmos? (Even if you don't use it now)
Glad to hear a good camera is coming into play. I've been using nothing but my iphone for pics during my bar construction, and it is hit and miss. The color variance seems to change constantly. Can't beat a real camera with real optics!
