I know there may be similar threads, but not this. I want to get ideas for my own theater as well as future theater builds for other members.

I want to see or hear what is powering your dedicated theater or media rooms. If you could post just your equipment list.
I have been looking through post after post to see what people are using and sometimes I am having a hard time finding just this info.

Projectors
Speakers
Subwoofers
Screens
AVR's
Amplifiers
etc....

Thanks

Sony VPL-VW1000ES 4K Home Theater ES Projector
Stewart Screen
JBL Everest Speaker system (24.8 channels)

Just kidding...

Here's a cool list of stuff in this dudes theater:

http://www.noiseaddicts.com/2008/08/jeremy-kipnis-home-theater-6-million/

I just have a crappy OPTOMA projector (DLP), DaLITE screen, Some Polk Audio speakers (6.1) and a Denon AVR3312IC receiver. Pretty modest stuff.

My theater build when complete will probably have something like an EPSON or PANNY projector 1080p 3D (under $5000) after I upgrade. I also plan on building my own DIY speakers and subs (SEOS 12" design + DIY subs ) and a DIY AT screen.

I am guessing there is lots around here like me. (or completed already)

DIY speaker kits are popular with the theater builder types. Same with DIY subs. More performance for less $$. The projector is usually the differentiating factor. Poor folks like me keep it under a couple grand- while some guys will go full potato. I'm not sure if you wanted to spend $10,000+ on speakers you could actually get better sound than a well designed $2500 DIY speaker set. And I am certain if you wanted to spend $5000+ on subs it would not best a $2500 or less DIY sub.

I've seen some expensive projectors ($25,000) but I can't say it's worth it to me over a $5000 one. Probably has something to do with the fact I can't afford it though tongue.gif

Have you built the speakers yet?  Were they easy to put together?  Have heard those are good or the 4pi speakers.  Trying to decide between the two.  Obviously one is more expensive than the other, especially if jbl woofers for the 4pi.

How do you like the projector?  And how much did it cost you and where at?  I was recommended this projector as well as a few epson and trying to decide between the two.

Rest of my list includes (future buys as well)

DIY screen from SeymourAV - Center stage - heard great reviews and they have an easy step by step build instructions

Denon AVR 891 (may upgrade, haven't decided)

Definitive 7001 floor standing speakers - using until building new ones

Subs are built into the speakers currently

No not yet. But I think I have a pretty good understanding of it. Hard is relative. Hard compared to building an entire theater from scratch ?? Probably not that hard then. It's just wood, glue and screws (or brad nailer) If you buy a kit the hard part is done for you (cross over design, box dimensions, port calculations)

The Pi look good too. BigmouthinDC has some. Brad did a SEOS build with the JBL drivers too (his theater link is the pimp my garage I think.. IDK I forgot)

I think you would be happy with either. I can't seem to get too many people that have had, built, or heard both speakers give me any feedback. It's like an unspoken rule around here.

I have not received the projector yet. I paid $2349 with a $550 cash rebate so $1799. I imagine I will see it next week some time. The same with the JTR slanted single 8's and will most likely have them by Christmas.

I was between the JVC RS-46 and the Sony VPL-HW55ES and went a different direction with the Panny. I have heard great things about it. This will be my first projector and most likely not my last.
Now I am screen shopping, but I am going to take my time with this as my room is a work in progress.

I have a stand alone theater, although I did not have a budget, it's probably good to have one.

So I have a

Epson 8350 projector. Tuff to beat for the money
Yamaha RXA 1000. You would never need a bigger recevier unless you have a crazy big room
Lg 390 blu ray Nothing special network blu ray, you defiantly want to have a hard wire for internet, because 1080p is harder to stream then you think.
Pioneer elite 91 laserdisc
(6) polk. Mc 80. Inceiling speakers Sound great but lifetime warranty from polk
1 polk pro 660 wireless sub
1 martin Logan dynamo sub
1 cheap screen 106". I don't even remember who made it it was $150 online, it doesn't really matter, because I control all the lighting in the room. Don't believe the hipe about buying a 1 or 2 or more thousand dollar screen , if you control the lighting

I read your build thread awhile ago and I really like it. I think you did a fantastic job for you space. I am using a small space myself, however I have some hurdles to jump construction wise. Again congrats on a great build and thanks for sharing.

I have not been on here in a looong time, but saw this thread and took a look. joeybutts, your diy speakers are quite an eye full. I built a set of Audax HT speakers and a cylinder sub back in 2001/02 and still use them today. Audax stopped selling to the diy market several years ago, but a lot of guys built them and I hope theirs are still in use. Mine are all either behind a false wall or inside columns and I have not seen them in a couple of years. But I still really like them a lot.

My current HT was built in 2004 and a lot of my equipment is older than that. My projector, BD player and the Emotiva amp are the newest pieces and they have some years on them now.
Speakers: Audax HT
Sub: eD cylinder sub (replaced my Dayton cylinder)
Sub Amp: Behringer
AVR: HK 7200 (surrounds and rear)
Amp: Emotiva XPA-3 (front)
BD: Pioneer BDP-51
Projector: Pioneer FPJ-1 D-ILA
Screen: Carada
Dedicated Room: 26x14 (completed 2004)
False screen wall with front stage behind
Four columns with surrounds/rears
Acoustically treated walls
Two tiers of Coaster leather seating
6oz TheaterPop popcorn popper (rarely used)

Thanks!! I plan on putting mine behind walls as well, which has me wondering if I should do a quality finish on them or just duratex them. I think I may just duratex them.

Took me quite some time to get them all done but they were well worth the time and savings for the performance. So happy I found DIY.

I like you color, I am thinking of that shade or maybe a little darker. Nice equipment also!

Projector - Panasonic AE8000
Speakers - JTR Triple 12's for LCR, JTR Triple 8's for L/R surrounds
Subwoofers - Dual JTR 2400 Caps passive
Screen - 120" Elite Screen Sable Frame
AVR - Denon 4311ci
AMP - Europower EP4000 (just for the subs)

Then I have my PS4, Xbox One, Sony blu-ray player, cable box, Wii, and my PS3 and Xbox 360 are not hooked up anymore. Before I had my system hooked up I was going to plan on getting an amp to power the LCR, but the AVR is more than enough and it would be total over kill. I honestly doubt I will be upgrading or buying more for this at any time soon. I need to still do more room correction at this point, although, I haven't done any since I put everything up, and it sounds fantastic.

Just finished painting it last month, I am really happy with the color. In the light it still keeps the basement bright so you can still enjoy ping pong and other things in the basement, but the Tint of the color really gets dark when the lights are turned off. Really helped with watching movies and also stopped the TV from micro dimming a lot during bright moments.

I am going to head up to Home Depot today and do some color matching. It looks like you used the same color for the ceiling?

I would love to hear the Seaton Sparks. I had heard the Cat 12's last year at the NE Spring speaker GTG and was blown away, they sound great. I actually took delivery of my 212 Noesis that day as Jeff from JTR brought them with him. I had also heard the JTR single 8's that day and was blown away by them and finally got around to having them built for my new room. Just so speaking of the single 8's, Fed Ex was here a couple of hours ago and dropped off my 4 slanted single 8's. Best Christmas gift ever smile.gif

I seen your stand in your pictures for your center channel, did Mark make that or did you buy that or DIY? My 228 would fit nice in something like that.
