I was tied up this last weekend with a friend coming to town. He is here until Monday of next week. I finished my subs up today. I'm still planning on taking measurements during the weekend. It will not take long once I'm set up and that is about 2 hours of work. I will get the Riser tests done by Sunday. Next week I'll get to the front wall bass trap.

I need help on hinges for the front cabinets. The door will be about 5'6" high and 30" wide. I want the door to be flushed mounted so I need suggestions on hinges that will allow me to flush mount the door to the cabinet and open it outward but also be good enough to handle the bass of 4 subs without making the door vibrate. I was thinking 5 hinges per door. Concealed hinges

Something like this work?

Opinions needed on Fabric Selection
Metallation Stove Pipe is the darker color
Metallation Dark Annealed is the lighter color

I'm looking for opinions. My wife likes the Stove Pipe. I did when I had a sample, but now I'm worried there is not enough contrast with the stained oak. I have a picture with flash and without. I've decided to order more samples of 1 yard length (these were 5 yards) and will see if any of them catch my interest more. OHterwise I'm going with the Stove Pipe.

I'm interested in opinions on this

GOM Metallation. Acoustically Transparent. Looking for more opinions, though so far it is unanimous

I like the Stove Pipe too... I might worry a bit about reflections with the lighter one.

Thanks!

Also, thanks for posting the samples. I was looking at getting DMD fabric but now that I see these I ordered some samples of that type to compare.

With flash, your "Stove Pipe" looks a lot like my "Boulder" I used in room.....

Not a fan of black theaters I've visited because most have been monochromatic......but with stained Oak I can see why your concerned with some contrast. You can use items in room with contrasting colors to help........chairs, amenities etc.

IMHO, everything in room with same color hues is not inviting......

Given a choice between two....... stove pipe fits best.

With the amount of time I spend on this forum I am not sure how I have missed your build up until this point.

I think the Stove Pipe looks great. If you are wonding on the contrast my build is very similar to yours. I painted my wall with a colour extremely close to that Stove Pipe, I also have dark stained Oak. Check out my build Post 27 for pictures of bare walls with the wood contrast.

I am very happy with the dark grey and wood colour, my wife loved it as well (so I win all round I guess).

look forward in see more pics of your build, I am now subscribed to your thread!

Small delay on the measurement of the riser as a broadband absorber and then the front wall as a membrane absorber. My woodworking trimmer is installing the front cabinets and he has alot of equipment in the room and I am concerned about clean readings. I want to get all of that out this weekend and take the measurements then. I apologize for anyone being delayed waiting on these.

New Color Options: Open to suggestions

Grey/green (next to the red)
Red

Then Blue with a light green next to it.

I'm also posting a picture of my three pillars for my bar/countertop in the back. I'll put panel molding on those soon. Two outside ones are in place but the middle one was not i place. They will get bolted down after carpet. The bases are in place. Also a picture of my riser.

Carpet is going to be in within two weeks. The front cabinets will be in by next weekend. In three weeks I'll be taking measurements for wall treatment placement but I'll be able to watch movies starting then. Only 13 months after the theater was wrecked originally.

Also, some of the cloth pictures are with and without flash. You will be able to tell the difference

I like the red and blue but I'm not a huge green fan. That last pic also really shows the size of your room nicely. Do you have carpet pics in here? That might help determine which color.

How would you do both? Take the area between columns and split top / bottom for colors?

Oops. I thought that you were asking for two colors.

I would choose grey first and blue would be my second pick.

I ran Bass Decay tests for the riser with vents open and covered in various states. I was expecting my riser to act as a broadband absorber and not so much as a bass absorber. I had my speakers in the 1/4 position in from the walls (front and side) I don't think I was exciting a lot of modal frequencies, and that might have been a mistake.

I'll rerun my tests again next week once i have the front cabinets in. I will also run a before and after for the front wall pressure bass absorber.

We can thank AVS for that. There is a workaround but I was lazy. Let me go back and edit them.

Cabinets are in. Doors should be in tomorrow and the screen wall by Thursday night.

Here are some pics of where I am in the mess that will hopefully be cleaned up this weekend.

Carpet should be within the next two weeks.

With the dark stain I think you need some contrast on the walls without going too light. What color carpet did you choose? What color are the recliners?

If the carpet is monochrome and the recliners black then you need a pop of color on the wall and I'd say red or crimson or a slightly more vibrant green than the sage color in the pictures.

Blue would work as well but I'm not a cool color person and that color looks a lot like denim. Of course if you like that then that would provide the visual interest you may be looking for.

Recliners are Fusion Lagoon Brown Leather. Carpet is a mix of Grey, Brown, Black, Sliver. Not light but definitely not dark.
Granite top is fairly light. For the cloth, I've put up some lighter colors and they didn't work, so I agree. I had a goldish color and I didn't likeit. The Reds don't look good. I think Burgandy would be a good choice, but I can't find one that looks good in the cloth. The ones I've found look like old ladies pant material. I'm leaning toward the GOM Metallation Stove Pipe color. It looks like a dark grey and has a sheen to lighten it up. It is not annoying reflective or anything but it has a sheen for certain.

I haven't bought the cloth yet other than the Black FR701 GOM for the column and cabinet inserts. I have frame kits from Parts Express that will me made like Mario's Cinemar build for the columns.

The fabric is not unreasonably priced, so if in a year I'm unhappy with the color, I can pull the frames down for the walls and switch the cloth out. Worst case, that is a $500 exercise. Everyone that has seen the Stove Pipe likes it. Things will be dark but I'm pretty certain that is my direction. Attached is a picture.

The sample of stove pipe I received looks more brown than gray, very interesting. I'll see if I can take a pic against my walls and post it later for comparison, watching Peter Pan with the family right now
