First:
I am planning to replace my two years old Epson 3D Projector to SONY 4k Projector model VPL-VW1100ES.
I know this projector is a monster in term of big size and heavy weight.
My HT screen is 16:9 134” in size.

My HT set up is Ceiling Mount projector.
Due to high ceiling of HT room, I need to install this Sony 0.90 meter to about 1.30 meter drop down lower from the ceiling surface level.

Can you recommend the best option of ceiling mount with extension.
The mount should be very sturdy and solid built.

And where I can purchase this mount online ?

Second:
Can someone advise me on the right screen: Fix Frame Screen 16:9 size 150" to match the Sony 4K resolution and lumens.
I've been told with that big of screen (150"), the GAIN of screen must be high.
And with 4K resolution the surface must be super smooth due to the ultra fine pixels?
I currently have Carada 134" 16:9 Brilliant White screen with 1.4 gain.
My HT room is totally light controlled "Bat-Cave".

THANKS.

First,

I recommend emailing or sending a pm to Mike at AV Science sales team........give him a call too. He'll give you the run down on pole extensions and mounts. I have a chief mount and pole extension that is close to 2 ft. As far as a pole vault pole being available..........I have no idea. Sorry for sarcasm..........that is a huge drop down requirement.

I have a 12 ft Seymour-Screen Excellence Enlightor 4k screen in 2.37 and love it. Screen has been measured by highly respected calibrator with gain of 0.8 which is plenty bright to me. If you have a bat cave, you have several options......for me, audio is as important as video so placing speakers directly behind screen makes for a realistic movie experience.

If I were you, I'd look into more screen options.........BTW, I love my 1100ES!

Hi 2wing, thanks.
You said fully satisfy with your Sony 1100.
Curious:
1. When you purchase yours, need any firmware/software upgrade since then?
2. I have Epson 3d Projector5010 for the last 2 years, do you think worth the upgrade to Sony 1100 with extra $20K ?? biggrin.gif

If you look at my build thread "Coffin Build" .......there are several photos of my set-up and how I mounted. Have 10 ft ceilings so needed a significant drop pole.

Someone will throw eggs at me with this statement...........Epson does not even come close to picture quality of 1100ES. You have to make the decision if it's worth the extra $. For me it was..........

I had the $2500 upgrade done on my 1000ES to make it a 1100ES........never had software issues. Projector has been solid!

I have checked your HT set up.
Why there is box at the top end of the Chief pole, to conceal the mounting plate/base or for other purposes (power cable?) ?

Box has been a temporary fix........

Coffered ceiling will be built this Summer so when base plates are added, no base plate will be needed.......just build vertical pieces and top plate which is removable.

Box hides Powerbridge, two HDMI cables and three Cat 6 cables along with ugly bolted mount plate,........gives clean look.

Not me - the 1100 is an outstanding projector. The VW600 is a close 2nd if one's budget doesn't allow buying a VW1100. Great projectors !

I have an older VPL-VW100 that just gave up the ghost tonight. I had put a new lamp in it about a week ago..should have done that a long time ago...picture was great after the swap and everything has been working fine until tonight. When I turned it on, it made a poping sound and the video was all skewed to the left with a wide bar of black and white showing. I turned it off and now it won't do anything so I am thinking about either a VW1100 or the VW600.

How much better is the VW1100 in comparison to the VW600? I have a 92" screen in a fairly small theater room. I have been pretty happy with the VW100, but obviously it is rather old and should be replaced anyway. Would I be happy with the VW600 coming from my old VW100, or should I drop the extra cash for the VW1100?

Also, does anyone know if I can use the same ceiling mount, the PSS-610 that I have now?

Thanks..
Mark

I've seen both, but not side by side......with your sized screen 600 might be a better option. While lens on 1100 is head and shoulders better than on 600......will you really see the difference? Probably not........

If you were going for a larger screen, then I'd suggest 1100 but your current screen size is perfect for 600.

Thanks for the quick reply. I am considering the 600 as it fits the budget better anyway, but that 1100 sure seems nice too...

Do you know if the old mount will work with either of these? It is mounted VERY well, and I would like to use it if i can.

Thanks,
Mark

I am about to install my Sony VPL-VW1100ES projector ceiling mount pairing with Elunevision 4k 150" 16:9 2.4 gain, fix frame screen.

Can someone advice me how to install both with best result?

Screen high from floor. I watch movie sitting on recliner HT sofa (about 5m distance from screen).
Projector distance from screen (projector lens to screen surface).
Ceiling mounted Projector (center of lens) to top edge of screen.
My HT room is 5m x 7m. Screen is fix at center of 5m long wall.

Any link about this?

THANKS

All I can tell you is I have my Sony 17.5 feet from screen which is 12 ft wide 2.37. Throw distance was to maximize light output.

In addition, my screen is 33" above ground......with your 1.78 screen ratio, we have no idea concerning your ceiling height and room width/length.

Toughest job is locating where to mount projector. Once that is decided, depending on construction of ceiling, bolt mount plate to ceiling via attic and use appropriate pole length. You want middle of lens 1" above top of screen ideally, but no more than 6" above top of screen.

Call guys at AVS, they have appropriate calculators which will answer the major points you bring up.

Thanks doublewing11.
That is more than helpful.
All your data can be done in my HT room, no problem.

Can you tell me what is the exact distance between screen and lens for maximum light output?
I am also curious:
Why lens center should be placed one inch (to 6") above screen, not exactly level or a bit below top of screen? I have CHIEF extension pole with more than 33" length adjustable, I can position the Sony 1100 any point I want.

Those values were ideal for my application.

You can have projector smack dab in middle of screen if you want, but that produces other issues..............

According Projector Central, recommended throw distance is 6.1 meter from screen, for 150" screen, 16:9, 2.4 gain. Is this correct?

Are you in Canada or Europe? Unusual using metric and standard at same time.

I'm 17.5 ft for 12 ft 2.37 screen.

6.1 meters would seem appropriate and is definitely close to my location. The lens has a large zoom range so I personally went on shorter side for more light.

You too have wiggle room for placement........with that large screen. I would move projector as close to screen as possible.

Hi doublewing11,
I am neither from Canada nor Europe. I am from East Asia. A metric country.

There is suggestion saying that I should place the projector above my head where I am sitting, that is about 5,6 to 5,7 meter from screen, and the high closest to screen center, for this low position I will need very long CHIEF extension pole

I would place directly under your head......besides, 5.6-5.7 meters seams too close. Maybe 6m......

I have install all the EluneVision 4K Reference 150" 16:9 2.4 gain screen and Sony VPL-VW1100ES last weekend.
The ceiling mounted Sony 1100 lens center end up only about 20 cm above the screen center (that low).
Screen bottom is 60cm above floor.
Watching distance is about 5.5 meter from screen, eye level at 70cm from floor.
I get the picture perfectly set to the full screen.

Now I need to calibrate the Sony.
Can you all help me by giving the Best Final Calibration Data/Info List, perfectly for watching movies in Bat-Cave room. My current setting is Cinema 1 default.

THANKS.

You need to use test patterns to calibrate. Every projector is different and every person likes different settings. A calibration Blu-ray Disc is the way I do it but there are many other ways to place calibration images on the screen including you projector's own features.

Read the manual as it's been a couple years since I messed with the images on my vw1100 It's very easy to get it close with just your eyes, or in other words it's easy to set it to the way you prefer it to look.
