Question 3 TVs & 7.1

I am looking to have 3 TVs each with their own DirecTV box running 1080P. I would like the possibility to have each of them to play their own channel, but pick which one the audio in the room comes from. I have thought about using a HDMI spliter off each STB and send one HDMI to the TV and one to the AVR then picking the input per TV I'd like to watch.

Is there a better way to do this? My biggest thing that I have trouble finding is a way to keep different things playing on each TV but also pick which one the audio comes from.

Plus which remote would work best for this?

What is driving the audio in the room? Assuming you've got an AV Receiver and speakers, just run the digital audio from each DirecTV box to an input on the AVR, then select from there. Keep the HDMI runs directly to each TV.

I don't own the AVR yet but seems like there aren't any that have 3 optical inputs. Plus optical doesn't carry 7.1 audio.
