Hello folks,
Need help with the layout of a home theater in our basement.
The home is a modest 1932 brick colonial in Belmont MA. The basement of the house has a very nice room with a fireplace that runs the entire length of the house, about 23 feet. An elderly neighbor tells me that this was the family room for the original owners of this home. During the great war and times of blackout, they would all head downstairs and spend the evenings around the fireplace with a piano, etc..
Anyway, coming back to my challenge. Attached is an approximate floor-plan of this room. This is the most promising location for a home theater. As you can see, this room is rather narrow 11' 6". The exterior walls are unframed i.e., still all concrete. Ceiling height from the concrete slab to the ceiling joists is 7'6". So if I start framing with a double dry wall for walls and celing, everything shrinks down even more. There are two entrances here. The one on top can be closed shut if need be. Also the wall on top is the most suitable for a screen, nothing on this wall. The wall at the bottom of the plan has the electrical panel on it and also a small window.
Any suggestions or pointers to a suitable layout?
Thanks in advance.
