what to do with speaker wire?

Im not sure what i should do with my speaker wire that is ran in the walls for my 5.1 speaker system. The speakers will be small and surface mounted. Maybe something similar to this:

Should i put them in to a single gang plastic box and plan on putting a plate on it like this:

should i just stub them out of the wall? Is there a better way that im not knowing about?

Depends how much of a perfectionist you are. You can do the plates as you show or simply pull thru a small hole which you can either patch or caulk. At the other end where all the wires come back to the receiver you can use a bulk cable wall plate or a multi speaker wire plate as well.

or if you need power as well.

or if you want the speaker terminal type.

or even cheaper, coil some slack in the wire into an electrical box, put a coax blank plate (without the actual connector on it) on the wall, and pull as much speaker wire out as needed to reach the speaker. Minimalist, direct connection between amp and speaker, easy, cheap, etc

Looks a lot cleaner than a jack/plug set too IMO.
