I'm serious about this and I only have enough money to only do one or the other.
I know that an HT will be cheaper and make more financial sense in the long run (no gas, maintenance, insurance, or annual property taxes on the HT) but I have ALWAYS wanted an R35.
My HT is being built currently to tied me over until some things come into line then its a GTR for me also. Wife drives a 2014 srt Jeep. With that said if they throw the Hellcat motor into the jeep I will get that instead
Lol yep awd 475hp 6.4 ltr 8speed auto 0-60 in 4.7 seconds. Makes for a good grocery getter. Wife loves it honestly I do to. With the hellcat motor 230 more hp would destroy most cars from a dig . We have already run a 12.9 1/4 mile and it stock. It would likely take your 370 on a road course also
so if you see one at a stop light dont do it you will lose
for what it's worth I have a rzr 1000 for off road duties. This shuttles kids to school and picks on ricers.
The new jeep srt. Is the best selling srt model by almost 2-1 so plenty of people disagree with you about the looks
With that said
Really? Yes
Why ? Cause we like it and it's a hell of a nice vehicle
You spent even a penny on a 370 z Really why?
For what it's worth I own a 77 Datsun 280z with a 5.3 ls1 turbo project car.
I love old school Datsun's and nissan's I will own a gtr also. But the jeep gets more looks then any car I have had. More people approach us asking about it at gas stations exc. And I have owned and I have had some wild rides
Haven't read the thread responses, but 2 words come to mind: depreciating & asset.
Most importantly, you can open up the throttle on your HT anytime you want. A GT-R needs a track...you need track access and the money the track costs, which isn't cheap.
Since this is a car thread, here is the Bronco I sold last year. Miss her!
Congrats on the new car. Living in the Detroit area which is the automotive capital of the world, those of us who own "special" cars all know that if you cannot afford to have a secondary car for the winter months, then you cannot really afford the "special" car no matter what it is. Sure Jay Leno may have put 1000 miles on his new McLaren in the first week, but even Jay Leno knows enough to not drive such a special purpose vehicle in the snow.

Depends on the special purpose vehicle. Those Hi-luxes from Arctic Trucks, or all of those Balloon Tired (low impact) Russian cars, are amazing on snow;-).
I just hope you have better taste in HT gear. I've hijacked this thread enough I guess. Look forward to seeing pics of the GTR! Now let me go post on that other guys thread who's trying to decide between a HT and an SUV. Oh wait, that's right.. There isn't one.
To the OP: If you have to choose between a home theater and a nice sports car you're doing both wrong. As a member of the BMWCCA, former president of a Z32 club and current owner of some nice Italian iron - I would bet large amounts of money that you are a mere mortal (like myself and everyone else who doesn't drive for a living or spend every weekend honing their skills at the track) who can't drive the GT-R within 7/10'ths of its capability, especially on the street. There will be essentially no difference between what you can accomplish in that GT-R vs an Evolution or Sti. But you'll be a lot poorer.
I would buy a much less expensive sports car - a highly depreciated BMW, Porsche or even an older Ferrari (if you buy them right they won't cost you money in depreciation) to enjoy and take to driving schools and track events, AND build yourself a good home theater on a budget - by purchasing good used items and doing it intelligently.
I don't like European cars. They're expensive relative to the performance they give, they charge extra for EVERYTHING (the Germans are especially adept at this, their cars come with no standard equipment) and generally, Euro cars are driven by clueless tragic hipster yuppies.
That's why I got a Prius. It will make me look cool.
Just a FYI - A lease on this car may not be the best idea. If you already signed than its whatever however if your lease is $1300 a month or so (maybe more) x 36 months thats $47k with no cash coming your way after the lease is over. If you were to buy a used one for 80k with a payment of $1000 a month after 36 months you would owe about $50k however should be able to sell it for at least $65k and get about $15k back after you sell it and pay off the loan meanwhile you have a lower monthly payment and you actually get something when you sell the car. I thought about leasing one as well and decided the better route was to buy a used one. Good luck you will love the GT-R either way its an amazing car.
This thread made my day.. The argument between genofive0 and drunkpenguin is super funny!
I have to compliment drunkpenguin for the maturity.. You have had more than enough prodding to simply go off on the guy.. but you've remained very mature and professional.
Clearly we all have different ideas of what makes a great car or truck.. so everyone is entitled to have their own opinion.
Personally, I wouldn't spend the extra money to get 400+hp in a SUV. But then i'm more into autocross.. SUV's are just too high off the ground to perform well in that kind of environment.
And.. before you think I'm taking the other side.. I think the 370z is the worst Z nissan has ever made. It's not a good track car (overheating and brakes) and it's not attractive unless you get the NISMO version.. and then you're well overpriced vs. the competition.
Okay guys, this elaborate charade is over. I'm not getting an R35, I traded my M3 towards... a Prius. Because I want to save the environment. While going very slow. And driving in the HOV lane. And being very smug about my gas mileage.
The reason I faked all this is because I crave attention, I have low self esteem, I stopped taking my Restasis, and I suffer from COPD.
Nekkid pics of me in the Prius will follow next week. Previous mad epicness will still follow. Please donate. And send help.
Let me say that even though I liked my M3 a lot (I bought it used), I recognized its limits (like no snow traction) and wanted a multipurpose nice car that I can drive year round.
Hence the Prius. I will pick up a lot of chicks once install the 20" rims and under glow kit.
So I took delivery of the Prius this weekend. Already, I have attracted all manner of attention from the ladies, the mangs, and small household pets. They're all jelly of my awesome new whip.
Pics will follow shortly. I may or may not be unclothed in them. I make no promises. You've been warned. Hide the children.
I drive a Nissan, but it's far from a R35..... It is a good old Primera Sport plus from 2001.... fast enough (here we only have traffic-jams), pulls up faster than most german cars, handles corners very well and doesn't really cost a lot of money on maintenance....
Have fun! Looks awesome. I sold my 2010 Cadillac CTS-V a few years ago to fund the current HT. Still happy with that decision, even though the Caddy was sweet.
Are real snow and ice tires allowed on public roads where you live? On studs even an old 70's LADA (that would be a licenced even older Fiat, from early 70s) will easily overtake a high-end Mitshibishi 4x4, on its way to the North-Cape;-). So, if winter's are that bad you could new tires, and save some money. There are even retractable stud tires. Tough to a car guy that GT-R will always be attractive.
I second the awesome powers of the V. Considering price to performance ratio, why would anyone buy an M or AMG?
Speaking of which, I saw the new M5 at a dealership a few months ago. Despite the fact that it's a $130K car, BMW put big 6 piston calipers on the front but only single pistons on the rear. But wait, there's more: BMW really cheaped out and PAINTED the steel rear calipers blue (ricers love to paint their calipers). That is completely unacceptable for a car that expensive.
