Decoupling a door ....

So, I'm dangerously close to closing up my walls, insulation will be going in over the next few days. From there clips, channel and drywall or not so fast. My plan for the door is to use 2 jams, one on the exterior of the room to support the door, a 1 3/4" slab of MDF. The second jam will be decoupled into the interior of the room. I'm now thinking I should have the jam in place before the drywall to ensure I have a nice tight seal. Am I approaching this correctly? Is 1/4" between the jams sealed with acoustic sealant enough of a gap? Do I want my drywall to butt up tight against the interior frame?
