Ronman79 Theater Plan/Build: Into the Journey.....
Hello all,
Sorry in advance for the long post. I'm laying it all out...
I'm looking to have the opportunity in the upcoming months to design, and have built, my first dedicated home theater room! I'm in the planning stages now, and though I'm coming from RPTV, plasma, and led/lcd flat panel experience, I'm going to be doing a front projection setup here.
I'm doing my research, and trying to slowly buy odds and ends (5 new $700 power home theater recliners just fell into my lap for $250 each - couldn't pass it up) before the build out of an unfinished, upstairs expandable area.
I'm wanting to do quality, value components, and will probably be looking at the mainstream upper midrange sweet spot for components.
I currently have a Harmony Elite remote hub setup that can control certain lights as well, an Onkyo 876, Polk RTiA9 towers, (4) Polk PSW505 12" subwoofers, and Polk bi-pole surrounds that I'd like to incorporate upstairs. This THX Ultra2 Plus certified receiver is hard for me to want to part with, with the only reason possible being the move to Atmos...***update: I plan to be upgrading***
The plan is for the room to be very light-controlled, with dark, matte ceiling and walls. I have a very narrow, but deep area, and I want to go with as much screen size as possible. This is going to be about 120" diagonal, as it'll be narrow, with ceiling slope. The depth of the room will be about 28-30 feet, and I'm planning to do a standing bar with tall stools in the back.
Because of the limited width, I'm researching placing the towers behind an acoustically transparent screen. ***update:Towers actually fit under ceiling slope to sides of borderless 120" 16x9 screen. Looking at Elite Screens Aeon. So, I won't have to go AT!
I'd like to go 4k projection, as costs are coming down, and I'm just seeing today that one of the possible brands - Epson - has just introduced a new line with wider color gamut and HDR capabilities. Even though it isn't true 4k, JVC seems to be doing great things with the (almost) 4k stuff. ***UPDATE*** Following the Epson 5040UB/6040UB very closely. I think the JVC is out because of the extreme gaming input lag. About to see what is going to be introduced at CEDIA 2016, and I have the time....BUILD SHOULD START IN FEBRUARY!!!!
Whew... I would love feedback and advice on all aspects. Thanks again for reading!
