Been working on trim work and finishing the garage. Here are some pics.

I installed a louvered door for the closet that houses the upstairs HVAC unit. I am not a big fan of louvered doors, but I either had to use one or put a few vents between the closet and the outside world...that whole combustable air requirement thing.

Here is the almost finished garage.

It looks like you're closely following the approved Green Glue random application pattern. Keep up the good work!

Finally done with the second layer of drywall. Man, seemed like a lot more work that the first layer. I will spare you guys the pictures, as it looks striking similar to the first layer of drywall. Now, on to taping and mudding. The fun never ends

The most important part is that you have made a good progress - even if we would not see a difference with new pictures!

I believe you have to experience the amount of work involved yourself before you can honor the work of others doing almost the same.

I ordered my projector today. The panasonic ae1000u. They currently are running a $1000 rebate (must buy by the end of the month...or so they say). I bought it from projector people (a proud sponsor or AVS). It also came with a free oppo 1080p upconverting DVD player. I am not sure if the oppo is any good, but they are going for about $150 on ebay, so worse case scenario is I pawn it off. Ultimately I will go with HD-DVD or Blueray, but I am still sitting on the sidelines for this purchase. I want to get it mounted and see some images before I completely decide on my proscenium and stage set up.

As for the room. The second coat or mud is up. I am just going to caulk the corners of the ceiling/soffit, because crown molding will cover this.

We were painting in our basement today. We had the radio at the normal listening level in the HT. There is one door at the entrance to the basement - we couldn't here it in the kitchen directly above. My theater has RSIC + GG. There isn't much LFE on the soft rock station which is the only thing we could get. I cranked it later, and my wife said it was clearly audible, but not disturbing. The GG has only cured 4-5 days of the 30 - and there are a ton of flanking paths (including at that time an open bulkhead). I am encouraged. I think it will be worth the sore back.

Looking good, BTW

Thanks Calv1n and Dave.

Received a little "daddy present" today. I put her up on the ceiling to help determine screen size and proscenium layout. It looks like I will be going with 105" diagonal 16:9 screen. Most likely DIY of some sort. What do you guys think of SMX screen material if being acoustically transparent doesn't matter? Does everyone like it because it is a good screen material AND acoustically transparent, or is it just a good screen material all around.

I am really excited now. This is going to be sweet when it is done. This is my first projector and I am now a big fan! The family sat there and watched a large portion of The Incredibles without any audio. My daughter was mesmerized. Here are a couple lame attempts at a screen shots, and I use the term screen very loosely. Apparently I have some sort of hand tremor that I was unaware of.

Looking Good.

Well done!
I kept it in place and thought I will be able to handle the dark force.....
In fact I am almost able to keep my fingers of it, if there wouldn't be my wife asking me 3 to 4 times a week to watch a movie or TV!

Sanding is done!!! Primer is up!!! Ceiling is painted!!!

(2 coats of primer on the front wall. Just in case I want to project something on there )

Ceiling was done in a brushed suede finish. Pictures don't capture the color or texture very well.

Should look pretty cool when the crown molding and blue rope light are installed.

More accomplished today. First a humorous story. I went to Lowes and picked up 4 sheets of plywood and 400 pounds of play sand. I was driving my wifes Honda Pilot, which I have learned that I can pack pretty full of stuff. Because of the plywood, the tail gate had to be bunjeed (sp?) shut. On the way home I came to an intersection where about 3 cops were directing traffic. Apparently there was a bike race that was coming through the intersection. So, I sat there and waited patiently until the cop waved me to move on. He is doing this in between a break in the bikers. There is only a small window before the next set of bikers get to the intersection. I press the gas a little, then a little more. The cop looks at me as if to say, "buddy, you better hurry or the Tour de Small Town North Carolina is going to hit your side panel." So, I give it some more gas and...crash. Yep, you guessed it. 400 pounds of play sand and a sheet of plywood are laying in the intersection. It was amazing the sand was sitting nicely stacked on the plywood in the middle of the road, no damage done. One of the cops helped me load it all back. I felt like an idiot, but what else is new

The sand:

The stage is finished. I am in the process of adding a 2 pieces of quarter round to create a lip for the carpet to wrap around. Why is the quarter round stained ebony you might ask. Well I actually bought it to be used on the baseboards elsewhere within the basement. I stained it and added poly. Then I started to put it down and realized quarter round is not what I wanted. I wanted "shoe molding" which is a little smaller and thinner. Well, at least I found a use for the nicely stained quarter round

I have not decided as to whether to work on the riser (for the second time) or the proscenium next. It will probably be the riser.

the stain is like a step saftey feature. When steps are hard to see due to materials being the same on top and bottom, people add a colored edge to make the step edge stand out. Looks like OSHA would be proud.
