Seems like RED is a popular color- does it effect your screen color calibration ?

I'm having a harder time with choosing a color scheme than anything else in my attempt to plan a theater build.

You are not alone. I had no problem finding a contractor, picking out all of my equipment (minus the screen), lending a helping hand with the construction, but I am still uncertain of a color scheme. I was thinking of a chocolate brown with french vanilla trim work.

Exactly! Ask me what I like, I don't know. Show me examples, I can tell you if I like or not.

Being a graphics designer by education and a “whatever media is popular” designer by occupation. Colors and overall design were easy for me. But then I guess my forum "name" alludes to that.

I knew I was going to have dark colored wood and brown microfiber chairs so out of the available colors that would of coordinated with that a dark red was my favorite.

It just depends on what you are looking to accomplish with the room and of course your budget biggrin.gif

That sounds cool. Did you make final decision yet ?

I was always jealous and admired Mr Pointdexter's color scheme from back when he did his theater. I am thinking I want some kind of nice stained wood, combined with either navy/blue/purple - black leather seats, black or dark grey carpet with a small patern in a lighter color.

At least I don't have to decide right now. Lots to decide and plan for first.

Hire an interior designer / decorator for a small consult... In the grand scheme of the $$$ spend on a theater project, a few hours of designer consulting time is well worth it - especially for us color-coordinating-challenged folks. (aka "men") biggrin.gif

Often an interior designer undermines the home theater designer, and compromises the audio and video performance of a room.

I think this is true if you are not careful, and it will depend on the designer. The designer that we used for our home (granted, not home theater, yet) offered advice, but ultimately all the decisions were left up to us. I'm considering using her for our HT as well, and bringing all of the FR701 swatches I have and letting her pick from those. I think it would be a huge help for me to have someone I trust help with the color selection.

Dude, are you made of leprechauns? Cause that was awesome!

I have 2 colors picked out, and a carpet that I like. Not sure on what exactly to do.

Color one- Dark blue/gray- surprised the wife liked this one. Going to use at minimum for the screen wall + another wall AND the soffit at the front above the screen. Valspar Color "Smokey Pitch" 4007-B
Color 2- a Monochromatic medium/light gray. This one does not have any green or blue undertones to it.

Carpet- Gray/dark gray/black/silver speckled.
Pictures would be worth 1000 words; I don't have any yet. I am leaning toward making the walls blue/gray, the ceiling gray, and the trim into a light gray or blue/gray. But I've also been kicking around the idea of stained wood trim too now.

Only if you don't give them direction. Giving the requirements and boundaries prevents that.

Exactly. I had pictures, fabric panel swatches, etc. and explained the rest, although my decorator understood the basics...

Hey Gang,

C-not-K, That room looks fantastic and has provided me with confidence to move ahead with our plan. We hesitated at painting the ceiling a dark colour as it's a basement, but after viewing some of the images in here I realized it's the way to go.

Here's our colour scheme:

Main Walls:

http://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-color/alexandriabeige#ce_s=alex

Accent Wall (where the TV will be) + ceiling:
http://www.benjaminmoore.com/en-us/paint-color/raphael#ce_s=raph

Furniture is a chocolate brown corduroy sectional. Not ideally what I wanted when we started planning, but my wife fell in love with it and the price was right. If we get bored or feel it doesn't work in front of the TV i'll look into recliners.

The painting starts tomorrow and the sectional and TV (75" Samsung) will be delivered on Thursday. I'll post some photos when it's all set.

Nice. This sounds very similar to the colors I went with in my current build. I think you'll be pleased.

Finally finished up the basement. Sorry for the crappy phone pic. It turned out much better than I could have hoped for. many thanks for sharing your schemes everybody.

C-not-K, your photos inspired me to go with the dark ceiling and I love it. Thanks.

My only complaint has to do with some "clouding" issues on the Samsung UN75F6300 (I'll be calling my dealer tomorrow to talk about that).

That and I need more poster frames.

Just had my carpet installed this week. Still some trim work paint finishing to be completed as well as the black speaker panels which will cover the L/R speaker enclosures, and I'm switching the ceiling recessed light trim kits to black pinholes (ceiling is black and the crown molding matches the floor molding), and may add some wall panels once I do some acoustic testing, but you get the idea of the color scheme. My theater seats are camel leather.

What's all this noise on how difficult color selection can be?

We're men right?

Elk.......................... "Brown"

Grass, trees, mountains.............."Green"

There.......DONE!!!

I LOVE those colours, there is something very soothing and calming bout the way this room looks. Very unique ... looks like something out of a design magazine. Very nice!

Any builds with wood stain trim, and black fabric panels ? That's one of my ideas. The other is Navy or purple (probably a purple navy) I'm settled on a black type carpet and black leather chairs.
