Thanks for stopping by Bigfelter
I could have probably just used one layer of drywall but felt with all the wood work I was going to be doing on the light tray that having the MDF underneath the drywall would be better then trying to locate the studs.

I'm not sure where you are in your build but I made the mistake of only doing one AC supply and one return I would suggest doing two. If I had to do it all over again I would have built a hush box for my projector with its own exhaust fan as 6 people and my projector can heat my room up pretty fast.

Thanks W00lly smile.gif

Your advice comes at a fantastic time as I am currently spending hours at a time sitting in my unfinished basement and thinking it all through. So I am at the measurement and drawing stage. In fact I was wondering exactly that about the air vents and returns. Currently the likely theater room location has one and one of my questions was.... I wonder if that will be enough lol ... as for the hush box I had dismissed that because I am thrilled with the silence of my projector so why make one... AHA heat! Thanks buddy!

I am going to start my thread tonight for my build. I drew up the dimensions in SketchUp today so I am off the ground now I guess eek.gif lol

Thanks again for your reply!

Thank you in advance for the support of this great community. I will be sure to pay it all forward as I build my skill set!

Hi W00lly,

I am sure you are partial to your smurf tubes but I am going to be buying my supplies in the next couple of weeks and if you could do it all over again what would you prefer the smurf tubes design, or one 2 inch grey pipe like I see in other builds? I checked my home depot and they do have the smurf tubes. Thanks bud.

I think it really is going to depend on how long of a run you will be doing as the grey pipe is much smoother on the inside.
I'm glad that I used the tube as I have already pulled two new runs of speaker wire for my subs.

Hi W00ly,

What were the dimensions of your soffits? Between my 8' ceiling height and tops of door frames I am just realizing I don't have a lot of room. May only be able to be a 1' deep soffit. Also you wouldn't happen to remember what the clearance needed for the pot lights will be do you? Thank you!

W00lly,

Do you have an equipment list somewhere in the thread? I looked but 41 pages is daunting. The only thing that stands out are the image towers.

Very solid. Not enough PSB love in dedicated theatres.

I have a new room to start fresh with. basically the same size as your room.

I have upgraded my screen and projector since the last time everyone was here.

With the sub setup you have. Is it still extremely loud upstairs?

Well, my wife loves our theater, but she does complain it's too loud (if it's too loud) even when she's in the theater.

Speaking of the Mrs. Last night I wanted to watch the BR Gravity. I had watched the DVD on our 42" plasma, but I have since acquired the BR so I watched it in the theater. Mrs. RTROSE did not watch with me. I came up after the movie to ask if it was too loud. She told me "no". I then went back down and put in a demo disc and watched a clip from Cloverfield. I turned it up just a little from what I watched Gravity. Not even 15 seconds in I heard her yelling. "Now you're just showing off!" tongue.gif

Yeah mine is only too loud when she is not in the theater with me. She is usually the one asking me turn it up "just a little more". biggrin.gif

RTROSE

RT,

Too funny. So several weeks ago I on a Friday night, my wife retired to bed early, and I watched Gravity (2 floors down) in the HT.
The next day she told me I did a lousy job soundproofing the theater because she felt like she was sleeping in a broken rumbling space shuttle !! eek.gif

I just stumbled across this and what a nice setup. I have almost exactly that same dark gray, merlot cabinets and carpet in my basement as you have in your non-theater parts. Nice choices

I noticed you have a Seymour Center Stage XD screen. What are your overall thoughts of the material and the image? I'm looking at that in one of their electric screens as I'm not pleased with the texture on my current screen.

Thanks tcramer we really like the color choices we picked.

I love the XD it really is a great material for a screen it's nice and bright and you can hardly see the weave. Chris is coming out with a new material and I'm real interested in seeing a sample of it. Center stage UF which is a ultra fine weave

I actually received some Seymour samples in the mail yesterday. The UF definitely does have an ultra-fine weave compared to the XD, but it also has a bit lower gain. I'd be curious to hear how you think they compare, given that you've had the XD for a while. Are you thinking of changing up your screen?

There is a bit of a comparison of the 2 materials here on pages 18-19, if you haven't seen it already.

I just upgraded to the centerstage XD material and a new projector so I'm pretty happy with what I'm using at this point.
