Here are a few shots of my work. I plan in the long-term to put a TV in the vacant space, but for now money is diverted to finish my theater and work on some other projects. I finished this up in December.

These other two were before clean-up and the plumbing wasn't complete:

Guyz who have put in granite for the countertops, how much are you paying per sq ft? I see that lowes and HD prices are crazy. averaging 60-65$/sq ft.

Thanks.

As an aside, HD and Lowes do not have the machinery necessary to cut their own slabs so they contract it out locally

I'd say that the price you git is the average price, even from specialty suppliers. You'll be able to get significant price breaks from larger suppliers if you buy their leftover slabs, that's if you do not require too much sq footage. Most places will also have 'slab sales' at least once per year. Doing so I was able to get the price down to $30sq ft for the 4 bathrroms I did in my own house, rather than the normal $65-90 here. I also found that HD sells only the cheaper slabs. Many of the nicer patterns cost signifcantly more, and are only available from suppliers.

All true. Look in the phone book or online for Granite Fabricators in your area. Depending on what you are interested in and how many square feet you want, you can get remnant pieces at a significant discount over full slab costs. I too used remnants in all the bathrooms in our house and paid ~$35/sq. foot. Slab costs are more of course.

You can find a whole lot of interesting granite at the fabricators as well as in your local granite yards. Ask the fabricators where the granite yards are - most will send you there to pick out a slab anyway.

Finally, HD and Lowe's and others typically subcontract the work out to a fabricator anyway. The fabricators I've used are all willing to deal with consumers directly and a significant discount over what you'll find in the big box stores.

So true. I'm not even through drywall and I've got a list of things that I want to do differently in my next build.

I have a friend at work who finished his basement over the course of 3/4 of a year, then promptly moved. He really wanted a bigger house, but he did mention that after he built the deck and finished the basement, he got bored. Now that I'm working on my basement, I thnk he's really getting the fever to start his.

I told him to get the moving boxes ready...

Follow my build here:

How much of that was done when the drywall was installed? I'm at that point right now. Was it just a simple frame of the bar with plumbing stubbed in?

your home theater bars put mine to shame, but i'll post it anyways.
my basement goal is more of a game/casino/party room, with HT a second thought, but here's a couple photos of just the bar...

basic L shaped bar, except the 'foot' of the L is actually a black jack table that i built.

i had to cut out a section of counter top behind the bar to give enough room to be able to deal black jack.

step by step bar construction photos

and

how to build the lighted booze bottle shelf

fully assembled and ready to move to the basement:

Im amazed at the craftsmanship of all of your bars. I will post mine, but understand it is the worst part of THE UNDERGROUND POKER ROOM

I wish I would installed a sink, but no im too far in. WAY TOO much cash to do it now.
Looking into the bar area from the poker room
