What did YOU get done over the three day weekend?

I got as many circuits installed as my panel would easily allow (need to find room for two more) and installed and tested fours zones on one light circuit and two on another, move one switch, added a three-way and re-wired another. Final plan for basement is to end up with

3 15amp lighting
5 20amp outlet circuits (1 dedicated to bathroom and 2 to equipment, 2 general)
Probably need to find room in panel for another 15amp dedicated to projector, too.

Anyway, I pretty much got done what I wanted to.

- Installed the 4 can-lights-in-MDF-boxes (crawling around in the attic)
- Built and installed the 5th one (tougher spot, from below)
- Wired up all the cans to a temp switch near where my grafik-eye will be
- Installed the second layer of drywall/green-glue on the whole high ceiling (hooray for the drywall lift)
- ran the lutron-GRN control wire from my GE box to my entrance switch

- replaced eight ridge shingles on my roof (think spider-man/Homer Simpson) during a rainstorm

- messed up my knee crawling around on the beams in the attic so much

I'm just guessing I accomplished "most of what I wanted to" on President's Day Weekend because that's about all I ever get done any weekend. When was it? Did I miss a holiday weekend? I thought it was quiet here yesterday ...

It appears my hypocrisy knows no bounds.

I had a weekend of a thousand setbacks. Little projects kept going awry. But, in the end, I made progress. Screen is done/hung, seating purchased (coming Thursday), sconce covers painted, junk moved around.

Realtors come to take pictures on Friday, open house on March 1, so still in push mode.

Well this weekend was busy with home improvement stuff, but not much directly theater related.

Stuff that got done:
Painted master bedroom (finally found the right color)
Repaired bed - wife broke some leg/supports when she tried moving it on her own.
Installed whole house humidifier
Finished running 3 electrical circuits in the basement and started running the lighting circuit for the theater.

As usual I wished the weekend was one day longer. By the time the weekend is over I feel like I was only just hitting my stride. By the time the next weekend rolls around I forget what I needed to do next and it takes me a while to get back on track.

Edit - and yes, it's nice working for a company that uses the federal work calender.

I'm one of the lucky ones that had Presidents day off and I did alot on my theater. I have almost completed the soffits, ran the electrical in them and painted one half of the ceiling. It may not sound like much but doing the soffits with a ceiling that isn't straight is a bitch.

I finished dressing up the A/V rack, put up a couple more acoustic panels, and installed my RF extenders. Oh yeah, not to mention I took them back out after I couldn't get them to work correctly.

I painted my bathroom, recaulked the bathtub, and picked up my special order tub/shower doors. I don't really have a dedicated theater so my work is around the house.

You need to come up with a better story than that

I replaced the Preamp for the theatre and finally got around to rewiring the equipment rack. Took me a day and a half!

I did a lot of measuring! Measured the wall my screen is going on and put blue tape on the wall where I wanted the screen...also measured the wire route so I could have an idea of how much speaker wire to order....

What did we do for President's day weekend?

Camped with the Boy Scout Troop on an American Heritage weekend on a Civil War battlefield. Retired 3 American and one Virginia flags in a great campfire. Took vacation day on Monday preparing for our Blue and Gold Banquet (Cub Scouts) held earlier this evening.

Wanted to begin hanging drywall in the theater, but was a little tied up.

How did that go? What model did you install? Do you have photos and tips? Been thinking about doing it and was wondering if I could do it myself.

I didn't think about taking photos, but yes, you can definitely do it yourself. In my case i was replacing an order unit that was broken so I already had the water line installed. I put in the Honeywell unit that HD sells. I can look up the model number. It cost around $180.

Steps are easy. Cut the appropriate hole into the vent. Mount frame, then mount unit. Cut smaller hole for the gauge in a nearly by return vent. Install frame, run wire to main unit and install gauge. Tap into a water line, run water to humidifier. Install humidifier drain and your done.

I'll try to recreate the process in photos and put it in my thread this weekend.

I installed all the columns in the theater, including fabric installation on the front. Also finished wiring the theater room, including the Grafik Eye. 7 runs of 12-gauge romex in a quad-gang box is a bit tight!

It never seems like enough time to be able to do everything that you want to get done.

I added steps to my riser, picked up some sheet rock for the other side of my basement, saw a movie with my brother in law, went to church, got a haircut, went to my mom's place, saw a movie with my daughter, finished running electrical wire for a couple of outlets and a new circuit, hung up a couple pieces of sheetrock(just to get it started), ordered a pizza and called it weekend.

Why are weekends always such a blur...

Most of my activities were outside HT

- Got my new URC MX980 and MRF-260 set up
- Built hutches over study desks
- Caulked some gaps on edges of HW floor
- Made some dollhouse furniture
- Went snow tubing

Cheers,
Mark

Overhauled my existing room...ceiling mounted my new PJ, hung a new screen, put 2 speakers in the ceiling for the surround back channels, ran HDMI/speaker wire/electrical through the walls/ceiling, rearranged all the furniture, new speaker wire to all the existing speakers, made a giant mess, drank about 20 beers during the process...

All that's left is shampooing the carpet and patching/painting the holes in the drywall.

Oh and I also developed cellulitis in my left ear during the overhaul (probably not just a coincidence since I was poking around in the attic ceiling of a 100+ year old house), went to the ER, got some antibiotics...

I'd say that was everything, and then some.

Finished the bar (sanding / paint), put all my tools away, and cleaned up to get ready for the flooring.

I was working on my fabric frames.

This weekend we:
- Got all the lumber ripped.
- We made all the necessary frames to cover the theater (30 something).
- We finished 16 frames in total (wrapped and stuffed with linacoustic).

I hoped that we would get them all done but it takes longer than anticipated.

I guess I should update my construction thread ...

I installed front-wall curtains/valence over the weekend, only took a couple hours. Also had to unhook/remove a bunch of equipment from the living room so that I would have room to assemble chairs. My theater chairs didn't arrive until yesterday so they weren't technically a "Presidents Day weekend" project.

Also logged about 12 hours with google sketchup over the weekend.

I want to HD and picked up some insulation, the paint for the ceiling, and materials to insulate.

Started a little insulation Sunday night, but not as much as I had hoped.

Oh well....there's always next weekend.
