The Samsung 55" at BB in ABQ, NM - Cottonwood Mall
Not the best setup for this type of demo:
1. No ceiling so those bright Sodium lamps (??) are right above it.
2. There was a whole wall of TV's behind where you sit with their light and images facing the 3DTV
3. 2 pr
of the rechargable glasses on tethers but one pair had a smashed lens and was unuseable
4. Monsters vs Aliens.
5. Eyes were approx 8 feet from the display
Why they chose M v A to demo the new 3DTVs is beyond me. With it's 2.35 AR, you really don't get the size of the 55" to be apparent.
The 3D was good, depending on what was on the display, according ot the movie. I started watching about a minute before the end of the bridge scene. It was a bit cumbersome because my son and I kept passing the one pair of glasses back and forth. He wears glasses - wire frame - and had no problems with the 3D glasses fitting over them.
Typical LCD PQ - no deep blacks.
Yes - as soon as you tilt your head to either side, the image darkens - more tilt - the darker it gets. But watching in the normal head up position, the image was IMO, bright enough not to cause eye fatigue. And again the environment was not the best - total darkness will improve this.
Yes I saw instances of ghosting but not all the time. It seemed to depend on the action on the screen - high movement brought it on. Little movement - no ghosting.
I looked away from the screen to my right and it just looked like I had a pair of sunglasses on. I didn't see any; "everything is flickering." I put my finger over the receiver and once removed, the glasses went right back in sync almost immediately.
Looking forward to seeing both the 58" and 65" Panasonic 3DTV's when they arrive later this year.
