The 3da-1 could operate differently depending on the the P&PID. We should disprove this by capturing the EDID as it comes out of the 3DA-1, using two different Mitsubishi P&P ID splices.

Note: This isn't a setback for this method. If this were true, we know that both TVs used the same chipsets. So all we'd have to do is match up Samsung Year/Models to Mitsubishi Year/Models based on internals. (and most likely there would be a lot of bleed over..)

While I understand there may be a difference in supported scan modes, doesn't that all become moot since the 3DA-1 is outputting everything as 1080p Chekerbaord at a fixed frame rate?

Or in other words, if it works after the EDID update, it works and it shouldn't be any different regardless of what is being fed into the 3DA-1?

From the specs of the 3da-1 it says that the output is 1080p not 1080i. If it outputted 1080i you could not activate your 3d as it only accepts progressive scan inputs for 3d AFAIK.

To tell ya the truth about the dangers of doing this.. I am more worried about my red led burning out than scan rates. I have 4500 hrs on the set. The ps3 puts out a set scan rate so does the directv box. Would I hook up an htc pc and screw around after doing this on the hdmi 3 input nooo. I got a pop up window from the radeon card when I read the mits adapter stating about it being a dvi connection and I would get no audio on the connection. I was like yea I know about this from reading about getting the the geffens going.
The guys in the crt front projector section got thier projectors to work when hdmi came out in the same manner as what is happening here.
I have no problem using optical out for 130 dollars to get 3d working.... This is just my point of view on doing it and I have had fun and learned some things and want to learn more about this subject.
I have been following the geffen thread and it seemed like they were experimenting on the early adopters to get their product to work for profit. Were they following certain protocalls?
Thanks
Dan
P.S. Gonna download some ps3 games and wear funny looking glasses and just enjoy with my son later.

Does this method REQUIRE you to buy the full licensed version of PowerStrip or will the trial/shareware version get the job done?

Just picked up at Mits adapter kit with 2 glasses for $240 at Fry's this morning. They usually retail for $399!

I got my PS pin for the "Update EDID" function as well, I will try everything out tonight on my HLT6187S!

Regarding PowerStrip:

Apparently the "update EDID" option is an undocumented, unsupported feature, so it's not included in the trial version. I've also read that now you need to tell them why you want that feature before they will give you the pin to activate it. You may want to contact them first and make sure they will give you the pin before you pay.

I just downloaded PowerStrip and was about to buy it when I noticed this "warning"...I'm not quite understanding it, so can someone please explain?? Does this mean that even if I were to buy it the "Update EDID" won't show up?? How do I get that option?

Fry's here had them for $240 as well...quite a pleasant surprise considering I was going over there ready to spend $400!

Any tips on what to say when emailing/calling them and asking? How long does it take for them to send a pin?

It only takes a little while but u have to send along an file. This what support had me do and just tell them you want to use the edid function

The PIN is machine specific. You need to submit the pstrip.ini file from your system to use this unadvertised, undocumented and unsupported feature.

Go here: PowerStrip menu > Options > Preferences and double-click on the "Compatibility" label/bar. This will create a shortcut to your pstrip.ini file on your desktop. Close PowerStrip before submitting the ini file.

Cool, thanks!

I'm just waiting on the registration email with the "small attachment" to be received...hopefully it's not gonna take "up to 48hrs"!!

Are there any settings within PS that should/should NOT be changed prior to doing this? Is this a one-time registration only on one machine? I'm wanting to use my laptop with HDMI out but not sure if I should just use my desktop instead (which would be an absolute PAIN to move). Will it even work using a laptop's HDMI output? Has anyone GOTTEN it to work?

Also, I noticed when I start PS on my laptop it pops up saying "new device found" and wants to know if it's default settings or not. It says that if it's NOT default settings to cancel. Will it do the same on my TV? I have tweaked the SM picture control settings so the SM is NOT default.....will that make any kind of difference?

That's true.. but we have to see if the 3da-1 is modifying anything in the EDID besides adding new resolution modes. It's possible it is modifying other sections in the EDID.

I registered mine last night at around 10PM Pacific. I got the registration license at 1AM but I was sleeping. I then sent them my pstrip.ini at 7AM when I woke up, and finally I got my PIN at 1PM today.

Just received my registration file but after changing it to .reg I get the following error when trying to open it:

"These files can't be opened
Your Internet security settings prevented one or more files from being opened"

What do I need to disable in order for it to work and patch the registry with the required info?? Running Windows 7, btw.

EDIT: I've turned off UAC and disabled Firewall, Anti-Virus, and put Internet settings to lowest....STILL not working! What am I missing here??

line62, that's what I was looking to see. It looks identical to the stock extension block with the added VSDB data above(which appears to be what enables 3D output from the source).

FYI: You can't open an extension block in moninfo alone, there needs to be a base block before it. I've been using text files not bins.

Ok I've got a 89s, 76s, and a new mits EDID to look at. I'll try to get to it tonight but I have a lot to do before camping tomorrow. I know a lot of you know what I'm doing to the base block and I'm sure a few of you understand what I did with the extension blocks, so go ahead and try it out if you want.

As far as the "this will fry your DMD chip" claim goes... I'm not worried about it, but I would like to look closer at some different mits EDIDs. From what I understand, if the timings are incorrect then the main board will not understand the signal and will not pass it to the DMD board. That's when you get the "Mode not supported message".

I have noticed one thing that is strange. If you set your directv to output 720p the 3DA-1 seems to think it's a 3D signal. If you turn 3D mode on in the Samsung the picture shrinks to half the size. Maybe using a different mits EDID would help with that.

PlumB /Anyone,

I have a HL61A750...will it require to update the the extension block for this tv and if so where do i get this from? i read on pg3of4 from PlumB that his extension block matches with FilmMixers tv, but his is a HL67A750 which leads to believe that i can use the same ext block. i saw the update on the 1st post and I want to double check before i start anything? Thanks and sorry for the noob questions!

Anyways, the registry is patched and I'm just waiting on the PIN for the EDID update function.

Once I get the PIN, will it be quite obvious where to input it at? I'm in PS right now and there's no "Update EDID" available in the dropdown box. Does it only become available after I've gone into the service menu and unprotected the option in there?

If anyone can give rather detailed instructions from this point on (point from receiving PIN), I would greatly appreciate it and will be watching 3D that much quicker (hopefully).

What do I need to disable in order for it to work and patch the registry with the required info?? Running Windows 7, btw.

EDIT: I've turned off UAC and disabled Firewall, Anti-Virus, and put Internet settings to lowest....STILL not working! What am I missing here??

I right clicked it... save as..put in the name. and saved it to the desktop and then opened powerstrip it finds it and opens it

Thanks and sorry for the noob questions!

I don't have the HL61A750 extension block so please post it so I can make sure it's the same. It looks like all the 650/750s are the same so you can use any of those for now, I just want to be sure.

On the 720p thing:
I flashed my stock EDID and connected the PS3 straight to HDMI 3 (no 3DA-1). I reset the video settings to remove 3D. When it's in 720p I can select 3D mode from the Samsung menu and it does the same thing(shrinks the screen). So this appears to have nothing to do with the updated EDID and the 3DA-1. Only strange thing is that directv doesn't do it without the 3DA-1 connected.

I then opened up power strip and wrote to port 3 with each one. I had the laptop in projector disconnected mode {use fn +f4 in win 7 to select your display option on dual view cards). Its an ati radeon 4200 in it. I dont know if all the cards will behave the the same way. I used a 6ft directv hdmi cable to do it. I will try to get a final read on the edid later. I was just getting half reads before so not sure about that.

So I was finally able to successfully flash my 61A750 using HDMI from my Nvidia laptop alone. Similar to above.. heres what I did. It took many iterations to get these steps correct.

1) Start TV normally, connect via HDMI
2) Hit Fn+F7 (on my pc) to turn off the laptop screen
3) Hit Fn+F8 to confirm its remote only, your laptop screen should be black (with no backlighting)
4) Go to Nvidia control panel, and uncheck the local screen box (so only one monitor Samsung is checked)
5) Install Powerstrip and run immediately (no reboot)
6) Go to the update EDID screen..
7) Hit no to the first prompt... (something about auto detect)
8) It should detect your Samsung on port #2 (for me)
9) Click yes.
10) When the file browser dialog comes up, shut off your tv and go to the service menu, disable EDID protection. (Power, Mute, 184, Power).. Edid -> On
11) Now go back to your PC. Select the file you created for the updated EDID.. Go through the prompts... It should say SUCCESS!
