I am looking to buy a Panasonic Viera 42-inch Plasma (P42GT25).
I have been looking at the specs but I cannot seem to find any information on the motion (hz). It says that it has a 600Hz Sub-Field Drive but only when using Cinema Mode. I am just wondering what the (hz) would be without Cinema Mode turned on? Is it the same or better than the 240hz LCD's? I don't know much about HDTV's, but Im just not sure if I would be better off with a 3D 240hz LCD, or if I should go ahead and get the Plasma? I am looking for the TV with better motion and with 3D, because the 60hz I have now is terrible for Gaming.

Well I found a 42" GT25 for $749.00 brand new. And I really don't want the GT30 because the smallest they will have is 50" and it is just for my room, I just want a 42". I was just wondering if it was better than a 240hz LCD. I really don't know anything about the hz comparison between Plasma and LCD. None of the Plasma TV's seem to have any hz number on the specs except for that 600hz Sub-Field Drive thing.

It's my understanding there is no motion blurring on Plasmas. They blow the other displays out of the water when it comes down to it, but I'd be happy to be corrected if I am wrong. This is the same model I am looking at too. I heard good things about the set based on reviews on amazon.com. The set is very tempting. We want one and plan on purchasing one soon.

I just bought it now. The price was only $687! (Free Shipping) I think they were overstocked. I'm pretty sure the price wont stay that low for too long though.

There is a major difference between 600hz Subfield Drive and 240hz refresh rate on an LCD/LED.

600hz is essentially a marketing ploy...but it is true that Plasmas do handle fast motion better. 600hz subfield just means the screen is broken into I believe 10 or so divisions where each division is 60hz.

In my opinion the whole 120hz and 240hz thing is also quite the marketing scheme because it seems like the fast motion effect is usually an option you turn on in which the picture gets overprocessed and as a result is affected by artifacting, halos etc.

120hz and 240hz produce what seems to me as an artificial picture since they are inserting frames to make the motion APPEAR smoother.

I'm not sure how to check the firmware, but I have heard that when you connect the TV to the internet, it will automatically tell you if there's a firmware upgrade available. Hope that helps.

Lowest I see it now is $745 free s&h.

Tempted. Tax returns are coming soon.

Avatar offer ends Jan. 31.

I just ordered a Panny BluRay with the Avatar offer. Can I get both offers honored (2 copies) with the same name and address?

The rebate I saw showed it ended Jan 31. 2011.

Now the link is nowhere to be found, sneaky sumguns.

Edit: Didn't read it close enough. Not for any sets purchased after Nov. 30. It also only includes the Panasonic TC-P42GT25 not the TC-P42G25 (which is where my search led me). If those are, in fact, 2 separate models.

Quick search and there are manuals for both models.

Makes you wonder how many fell for that one.

For what it is worth I just got this set from Amazon for $879 and they price matched US Appliance who is selling it for $678.

Just make sure they don't price match with the US Appliance white glove service (which is an additional $90). I had to call to get that refunded from Amazon as they don't offer price white glove.

I just got the TV today from US Appliance. The thing I see that I don't like is that there is a lot of ghosting when things are moving and I can see the little dots (Noise or Snow) moving around some parts of the screen. (I'm sitting about 5 feet away.) Is there any recommended settings that I could use? The motion is pretty good for movies, but when I play Games on it, it seems to blur quite a bit when moving around alot.

UPDATE: I played around with some settings for the noise reduction and made it a little better. If anyone knows any expert settings for Games and Movies please let me know. I'm just using the default image settings.

Now I'm noticing some weird green tint that shows around some lighter colors. It mostly shows on peoples faces, like where the light shines from their forehead or nose/cheek areas. Its almost like a greenish shadow with alot of snow. It does not do this with Blu-Ray movies though. Thats the only thing that plays perfectly so far. Does anyone know how to fix this??

Here are the pics of what I am seeing. Maybe it is easier when you see it, because I can't really explain. It is doing it for everything now. Every video and game too. I am going to have to bring it to a Panasonic Service center. I just can't believe that I happen to get a defective TV. I thought Panasonic was a good brand...

One of the settings may be causing this, such as noise reduction etc.

I have had this tv for a couple of weeks and it has been absolutely perfect. From doing some research regarding calibration, I wonder if your contrast may be set too high? I seem to remember reading there can be some greenish or purplish tint if the whites are set too high.

Or maybe yours is defective. Hope this helps. When the set works, it looks absolutely fantastic.

How can it be 60hz if it's a plasma. No plasma tv has a hz number. By what everyone says it's "supposed" to be better than the 240hz LCD as far as motion goes.

The tv has two settings....48hz, and 60hz.

This is so confusing. I should have just gotten a 240hz LCD then. Are you saying other Plasmas have higher hz? Or are all Plasmas 60hz?? They don't seem to tell you these things in the specs.

All plasmas are 60hz tv with a 600hz subfield drive (marketing tool like contrast ratio) plasmas are naturally fast with response and don't need the motion stuff like LCD. 42gt25 is a good set

So, I guess what I'm trying to figure out is if Plasmas are better or equal to the 240hz LCD's in terms of motion, mostly in video games, like first person shooters. I know that in the 60hz LCD's it blurs really bad when moving the camera left and right. I don't mind in movies because I know that movies are supposed to have that sense or minor blurring so that it feels like a movie.

Plasma's are much better then LCD tvs when it comes to gaming.

120hz/240hz vs 600hz are two different things and cause way to much problems for people trying to understand.

Alright, I just wanted to be sure that I made the right choice because my P42GT25 only has 48hz and 60hz so I wasn't sure but I see now that the LCD's and Plasmas are just very different technologies. I'll have to wait until the replacement comes in to see for myself anyways, because the first one I got was defective. Now I'm waiting for the new one to arrive from US Appliance.
