ZD201s CANCELED

I just got an email from the company responding to my questions about the glasses, the news wasn't good (bold part by me):

Quote:
Thank you for your interest in the ZD201 glasses. Regrettably, after further testing and looking at all aspects of the ZD201 project, the company has decided to not pursue manufacturing the ZD201.

We will continue to sell the ZD101 glasses and are looking at other options coming out as early as this summer. Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

WOW

Making glasses shouldn't be such a big deal ..I would think.

Model ZD101 work but they can break easy.

Optoma not looking good on a few fronts.

This has been a very long and frustrating process for us as well and hope to see these units shipping very soon!

A+ to you Jay

I have cancelled with Tru3D and reordering with you. and i will wait until you get them. you have great customer service and excellent response times to inquiries. On the other hand.. Tru3D responded to my preorder questions within an hour with a phone call.... then after they had my order, i could not get a response from them at all.. bad customer service any way you look at it.

Yeah this is a bit confusing.

But who I spoke to was very clear on units already being shipped.

I've got to believe that although specific AVAD locations may not have received them, the main locations must have.

I'll raise this again tomorrow for more info. Unless they tell me otherwise, I've still got to believe what I was told before.

Till tomorrow then... Trying to keep a good humor about the frustration, as everyone is looking forward to this thing so much.

With that in mind I just started humming that old Coke ad: "I'd like to buy the world a 3DXL"...

This is getting ugly.

Joking aside, has any pricing been announced on HDMI 1.4 720p projectors? Isn't Acer releasing one soon?

I have been following this thread since the begining. And thanks to everybody for the information. I bought the optoma hd 66 5 months ago and still no 3d. I plan on buying the 3d-xl or vip theatre or the 3d vivatec projector wich ever comes out first. jonothan at vip was really good at replying to emails , now hes not responding. I think they have a shortage on glasses for their 3d gamer since they are substituting a different pair and charging ten dollars more than before.

Actually, he's responding on the curt palme forums; he's confirmed that there was an issue with glasses, but his last statement on the gamer was that they're shipping within a week of order now unless bundled with glasses. No direct information myself.

yeah he did respond there after a couple days, but I have gone about a week and a half since email from him..he seems to be VERY hit or miss. I wish he would just get info out on his other products...I think thats what alot of us are waiting on...and if you go to their facebook page it was almost like the 3d displayer had launched but I have yet to see any of them or get pricing on that or the theater.

Has anyone tried the 3d-vip product? It looks cheaper ($199) and would serve my main purpose (Killzone 3 in 3d). I also heard it plays VUDU 3d movies from PS3, not sure if that is accurate or not.

the big question though is will those work here in the us..if so I might just order one

edit: just spoke to optoma and the tech support said it would..it would need a new plug (an adapter maybe) and all warranty support would go through optoma europe...so its up to us if you want to get it from there...also he said the 3dxl here was suppose to start shipping the 11th but he didnt know anything beyond that.

i have the uk 3dxl and the adapter itself says input 100-240v 50/60hz so it seems variable, so in theory should work. It comes with a uk 3 pin and a 2 pin plug, though i dont know if it would work with your power sockets. The output from the adapter is 12v, so all you would need if the original one didont work would be one of those power adapters you can change the jack points and voltage.

Now as for content working i cant see your 3d tv not working as the box will accept 1080i side by side in both 50 & 60hz. The ps3 works fine as does my oppo bdp93. Both the ps3 and oppo as set to auto and when playing 3d games or bluray the 3dxl switches to 720p/120.

As for the risk of importing you take a chance, and if its out in a few weeks you would be better to wait. You have waited a good bit already so whats a few extra weeks.

Not to make you jealous i am off to play killzone 3 in 3d

I received my dual 3D-XL's today. But I am having some trouble getting it to work, I suspect the 3D ready splitter, the cables but mostly the 3DXL firmware. rdjam, where did you get your updated firmware for dual 1080p24 support? I really think I need it.

I am pretty sure the 3dxl box itself will be the same for all countries , the box is only an adapter to covert the 3d input into something that your projector understands. If you look at the specs you see the inputs it takes and the one you would use are covered by the European model.

John - I am very confident it will do 3D BD OK and the power thing is no big deal. However, I use D* for broadcast and I am not convinced it will work with them. Cable broadcasts will probably be OK also. Of course you could ask Optoma tech support about the UK 3DXL but that would be a waste of time.
