ME TOO.
I bought the HD-66 ONLY because of the "January" 3D-XL. (Plus the black ink has already rubbed off of the buttons on the new projector!)

"3D-Ready" or "3-D in a few months, just keep calling"????

The thing is these adapters have a small window of opportunity to sell. Acer already has an hdmi 1.4 version of their pj coming soon.

I hope this will be fixed since my projector makes a ten times better quality upscaling.

Can you explain the problem that you have seen with Skyhd and the 3dxl? Directv one of the popular satellite tv systems in the US outputs 3D at 1080i resolution for most 3D channels. Have you noticed any problems with the 3dxl in scaling this resolution?

Maybe if you can describe the resolution problems that you have seen for the single projector 3dxl installation then we will be aware whenever delivery in the US starts.

Thanks

No probs!

Re the resolution - as I understand it, the 3DXL outputs what it is given in dual pj mode. Ie, if you feed 720p60, then it will output 720p60. Easiest way to check is to look at what your projector reports is being input.

This is not the case for 720p/60 3D in dual I'm afraid. It will upscale to 1080p/60.

It will pass through 720p 2D though.

I don't have any 1080i broadcast source but I can easily verify whats happening by setting my PS3 to 1080i (2D). The 3D-XL will output 1080p in this case. And this is in a passthru mode. Not very good, in passthru it should not touch the 2D signal right?

I bet the 3D-XL is as bad at deinterlacing as it is at upscaling.

i have the 3DXL and live in the UK and i use SKY HD/3D, sky outputs at 1080i and I found a problem when I wanted to watch 2d sky hd programming on the projector and thus the 3DXL should be in pass through mode. However the 3DXL is doing something to the picture and was introducing weird artifacts in the picture and were clearly visible around buildings and people. However if I set the sky HD box to 720p the picture looked perfect. With 3d its a different story I could leave the sky box set to 1080i and with 3D content the 3DXL would automatically switch to 720p/120 and the picture looks great. With 2d bluray @ 1080p/24 the picture also lookd fine to me. Thus the only problem seems to be with 2D 1080i material, so when watching 3D from direct tv you should not need to change anything, but if you want to watch 2D through the 3DXL switch the direct tv box to output 720p.

Thats what i found with 1080i sky hd, if you feed the 3dxl a 1080i signal the 3dxl deinterlaces badly and the picture is realy bad, however feed it a 720p signal from sky hd and the picture looks fine. So as use said there is not a true pass through mode in the 3DXL it processes every signal that comes in. Though with 720p it does not seem to do anything to the picture.

Okay guys, good and bad news. I awoke this morning with an email from amazon confirming they now have a stock of the 3d-xl. The bad new is that its 499.99 through them. I guess this means they will be showing up very shortly at this point.

That is sold directly from optoma I believe, its not amazon that sets that price...that is optomas price...also did you notice how long it takes to ship out?

I'm pretty confused by all this 3D stuff, so I thought I'd ask the question in here, forgive me if the questions are repetitive. I have a Sharp DT-500 that I've loved for many a year. However, the lamp message has been on for a while and I'd like to integrate 3D. My questions are:

1. It sounds like this box paired with a new projector would be a good solution.
2. What's the "best" DLP projector that will work with this box? I'm talking price/performance.
3. I have a regular white screen. Do I need to upgrade or does that mean I need active glasses or something? If so, what's the downside to these type of glasses?

Thanks for your time.

Ok, I am a little confused here. I know that the 3dXL will convert side by side, 1080p frame sequential, and above below 3D formats to the proper 720p fram sequential for the projector, but does anyone know if it will convert the checker-box format? I have had a little more trouble then I care to admit trying to figure that out.

Accordding to the specs it will not and this is probably due to the fact that Checkerboard format is unique to 3d RP DLP TVs which are still being made by only Mits.

Here is the german translated description of the ACER H5360BD with a street price of around $799 (from what I can gather):

The Acer H5360BD Acer has a new projector in its portfolio that will change the entertainment world completely. Especially 3D entertainment fans will appreciate the model. The integrated HDMI 1.4a standard allows the transmission of 3D content of suitable display devices, such as 3D Blu-ray players, set-top boxes, 3D, and 3D game consoles without any additional PC is needed. Thus, using the Acer 3D shutter glasses 3D Blu-ray movies and shows 3D TV in your living room with a diagonal of 7.62 meters (300 inches) are shown. The Acer H5360BD HD video projector and DLP 3D Ready nVidia 3D vision. Dive into the 3D movies and gaming world, and experience in 720p HD quality, the next generation of video projection. With 2,500 ANSI lumens of 3D home theater projector features Acer H5360HD must, even in daylight a bright, brilliant and sharp image with which you can not hide in the basement.

I am cancelling my order for the 3DXL, and will wait to upgrade my H5360 to the BD version. It doesn't make sense now to wait for the 3DXL when it will be ready around the same time as the H5360BD for about the same combined price.

Best deal for projector: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...m-_-24-009-223
This is the version that does need the box, a new version is coming out in a couple months that will not need the box.

Here is the second best option for comparison:http://www.amazon.com/Optoma-HD66-25...9079425&sr=8-2

This is NOT sold by Optoma and they are not setting the price. The only reference to Optoma in the ad is the "by Optoma" reference. Next to the price is says:

Usually ships within 1 to 2 months.
Ships from and sold by Amazon.com. Gift-wrap available.

Their words, my emphasis.

The price of what?? They don't know what the price should be because the product doesn't exist. They will fix it when they actually get a product to sell and know what it is.

I will clarify even more, This is a special order item that they have to order from otptoma, then ship to you, this is not Stored by optoma, nor do they have any in stock, this is from optoma themselves....also amazon did get a price from optoma and put their markup on it...all this info is straight from amazon.

Thanks Walford, I sort of figured as much. But with the 500 dollar price tag from amazon, I doubt I will get it any time soon, not to mention the car needs repair...

I have a Dell 1610HD 3D DLP projector and the Viewsonic PGD-250 3D glasses and was wondering if the Optoma 3D-XL would work with it. I have a PS3 and a Sony BDP-S480 3D Bluray player. Will all of this equipment work together? I plan on going from the Sony Bluray player to my 3D A/V reciever, and then to the Optoma 3D-XL, and then finally to the projector. I just need to know if this setup will work. Thanks.

I also have a current ACER--just revving up my upgrade engine. I will probably get the 3DXL anyway--I was thinking--heck it will work if I upgrade to 1080p in a year--when all the new 1080p 3D projectors go down in price because the new ones with 3DBD onboard hit the first of next year. Plus I've a got a hunch the first couple of firmware batches are going to be buggy as heck until until they get all the glitches ironed out. The 3DXL appears to be pretty stable now according to recent reviews.

by the way amazon.co.uk has the 3dxl for sale with glasses and it would cost 390 with express delievery (3-4 days), for those of you who are very impatient!

edit: did anyone from the uk ever say if this has a plug that will work in usa? can anyone take a picture of the power adapter and put it on here for those who want to get this thing right now and not wait for months, thanks.

Would that work in the U.S.? Someone mentioned a couple pages back that it may require an adapter?

EDIT: Nvm, Amazon changed to "Usually dispatched within 1 to 3 months"
