Hi does 3D XL works on media players such as the popcorn hour a-210/200? I have 3D blu-ray rip 1080p half side-by-side mkv files. By the way, my projector is Acer H5360.

Hi,

I've just bought an HD67 and 3D-XL off someone on ebay. Having had lots of issues trying to put it through my AVR I've hooked it up directly to my PS3 (PS3> 3D-XL> HD67) using new HDMI 1.4 cables. The HD67 seems to not be able to cope with the 3d properly, it looks great when its working but then the projector begins to flash sporadically then cut out and lose signal, after searching for usually 30 seconds or so it picks up the HDMI signal again but inevitably will cut out again within the next couple of minutes. As I mentioned before, I have both cut out the middleman (the AVR) and bought new HDMI 1.4 cables to try and rectify the problem but it hasn't really helped.

Is this a known problem with an easy fix or have I just been sold a faulty projector?

Thanks for any help,
Lachlan

I don't have any ecperience with your projector but this * may * help:

See if your pj is set to auto source. If it is, set it to hdmi.

So, you have it running fine? Your enjoying the content and then bammo out of nowhere this starts happening?

Almost always a cable issue when I have come across this.

How long is the cable to the projector?

+1

Also check that the cable is seated well at both ends... those high-speed cables tend to be thicker than their standard counterparts, and hdmi doesn't have locking connectors, so the tension pulls them loose easily.

With my cable run to my pj, I actually looped the hdmi up *over* the projector & secured it with a zip-tie, that way gravity isn't tugging on the connector.

If the Optoma 3D-XL had a zero defect rating it would be quite amazing for a new product, or any product for that matter. Try hooking the projector up to the ps3 and watch a few 2D movies.

Just got samsung / mits emitter and 3d glasses from ultimate3dheaven. Have setup with my 3dxl and acer H5360 projector. Works perfect ! , only snag is the IR signal is blocking my remote signals from harmony one remote.Probably need to reposition emitter so it syncs glasses but not block signals. My Samsung 3D glasses that came with my tv work so no need to buy any DLP glasses !

What are the advantages in going IR glasses over DLP and have you noticed any changes in picture quality with the IR glasses? I use the Ultraclear and Optoma DLP glasses with my 3dxl and an HD66. Is there an advantage in switching?

My setup is a Optoma HD66 with a HTPC+PowerDVD. Right now I'm thinking about going for a dedicated 3D Blu-ray player and eliminate the HTPC. I feel that my PC just make the room less movie theater like. So... here are the 2 choices:

Optoma HD66+ 3D-XL+ Oppo Bdp-93
or
Optoma HD66+3DXL+Panasonic BDT310?

I need a blu ray player with twin/dual HDMI because my AVR Reciever aren't HDMI 1.4a capable.

Please let me know which make more sense for the HD66 projector. Thank you in advance.

Seems the problem is probably with the PS3, either it was bad timing or the extra work of 3D exposed the issue. 3DXL and HD67 work fine with Sky 3D and I borrowed a friend's PS3 to test and Tron played through with no problems at all in full 3D. Don't know what's happening with my PS3 though, got it second hand about a year ago so may just be past its prime.

Thanks for the advice, if anyone has any idea why a PS3 would be randomnly losing connection with the projector then I'd love to know if there's a solution as I don't much feel like buying a new one so soon after buying the HD67 + 3DXL set up.

Cheers,
Lachlan

That sucks. You could try cleaning it's hdmi port with some eletrical cleaner. I really don't see how it can be an hdmi chip issue. 3D uses less bandwith than 1080p.

First you'll need to update the firmware on your PS3 enabling 3D gameplay and 3D Blu-ray, or to the latest version, if you have not done so already. With the PS3 "off" hold the power button until it beeps twice - this resets the video output and goes straight to video setup, then use automatic when asked. I've heard of some people having difficulties getting it to stick by going thru the menu options. Also if you are using DLP glasses, make sure it's not set to emitter or 3DVision. Also could be a heat issue due to a bad fan or some evil dust bunnies in your heatsinks, perhaps?

All right trend setters...looking for some help here. I am looking to go 3D and starting fresh (in a few ways). I currently own a fat ps3 as well as an onkyo SR607 therefore I am hosed on running the 3D signal through the onkyo. Which is no big deal. I am just looking for some reassurance on what is being said throughout this thread. The Optoma 3DXL is the converter to get. The IR emitter and glasses from Ultimate are the way to go. Finally what are some projector recommendations? My initial though is go cheap like the Acer as this is evolving tech and I can change it in a few years, however is there another projector which costs more that is definitely worth it? Also is there any issues with pushing the 3D signal of a fat PS3 through the 3DXL? Thanks!

Currently using fat ps3 with 3d-xl and hd66. Works great!! I am using the monster vision glasses and a pair ofvthe optom DLP link glasses. Everything works better than expected. Optima glasses are a little less confortable, but also half the price. The monsters never lose sync because of the rf. Either way you have. Great 3d setup for around a grand.

New to all if this..sorry if this is a silly question, could you give more details of the monstervsion glasses ? does 3DXL support RF glasses as well ? which of these is better for image quality (heard bad things about 3D DLP link washing out blacks etc)

First thanks a lot for this awesome thread

i pulled the trigger and purchased an HD66, 3DXL and a 120 inch FAVI screen

i will use PS3 as my Bluray player mainly for 3D movies and games and 2D movies (of course) and i have a 7.1 surround Onkyo AV receiver that does not support 3D.

need advice on how to connect PS3 to the receiver so as not to lose the 7.1 audio....at least in 2D mode (i hear PS3 gives up HD audio in 3D mode)

will the following work ?

PS3-> HDMI Splitter -> 3DXL -> HD66
-> Onkyo (using HDMI)

also any recommendations for best glasses ?

The MonsterVision™ MAX 3D Eyewear http://www.monstercable.com/max3d/default.asp are rebranded 3D glasses that were developed by Bit Cauldron known as their BC5000 http://www.bitcauldron.com/products/...es/bc5000.html As far as shutter glasses these are supposed to be cream of the crop offering a greater emitter to glasses sync. To have the Monster name grace your glasses you'll pay a 30-50 dollar premium over other offers of the same RF glasses. Such as here http://www.curtpalme.com/RFGlasses.shtm at $199 with emitter and $129 with no emitter (atm). The DLP glasses seen at this site are the Bit Cauldron BC3000 rebranded. There are very good threads on the AVS forumns regarding different brands/vendors of 3D glasses, the pros and cons of one over the other. As well cheaper alternatives that are non-problematic and may suit your needs.

I have been using just optical audio from the PS3. I can't tell the difference. I did just buy a Onkyo 809 so I wouldn't have to switch so much.

There really is no need to overthink this. Right now there aren't really a lot of 3D Blu-Ray's out there so trying to get HD audio while in 3D mode maybe not worth the time and money right now. By the time the selection of 3D Blu-Rays get bigger, you will probably be buying a new player or new AVR.

As said earlier, you might even be hard pressed tell the difference in sound quality using the optical output.

If it really bugs you that much, go for it but honestly once you finish watching all the 3D Blu-Rays available in 1 week, you will wonder why you went through the trouble in the first place.

i'm planning to get a Optoma 3D-XL to compliment my HD65.

Anyone tried the above with success. Is the HD65 Bright enough to do justice to 3D..?

I do have a Da-lite high power 2.4 screen.
