Yeah, the pass through is not passive - 3DXL needs to be on. What a pain you have to walk over and turn it on - or leave it on like you say.

Not sure if you have it on and turn the mains off, will it come back on next time you turn the mains on? Was thinking i might as well get something for the mains - sucks out all the standby power!

bluemetal77, grats on getting it set up. A great demo BR? Well, there is a whole thread for that Open Season has a lot of great 3D effects. Some like Step up 3D. That is a good workout for you subwoofer too. The real Avatar BR3D is really amazing.

I'm trying to get my hands on a cheap Avatar 3D Bluray, frikking they sell for $90-110 bucks... quite a bit!

I've ordered tangled 3d to see how it goes .. was not overly impressed with Resident Evil after life, although the depth was amazing .. maybe that's the new 3D technology they shot the film in?

Anyways, with the 3DXL - i noticed it didn't play some of the youtube side by side videos correctly, like it would show 3 images on the screen with the middle one being 3D .. weird .. and for 1 video on Youtube, it was fine .. so it does get confused when the input is not perfect ..

You might as well just buy the bottom-of-the-line Panasonic BDP-110 for the Avatar rebate; they run not much more than that online anyway, and you can turn around & sell it & recoup most of your cost.

Or keep it... I have one, & it's not a bad player for what it is!

Yeah would love doin that, awesome workaround, just that i'm in Sydney-AUS, not in the States and the local Panasonic doesn't have that deal on .. sad!

Quick question for any owner that might use this with an acer H5360 dlp pj: optoma's official site says it is compatible with firmware a04; anyone tested different firmwares?

I'm running A08. I'll ask in the acer thread too, just to be sure.

Thanks a lot.

you can confirm the version you have by holding the power button down (once the unit is already on) - after a while, a text box appears at the top of the screen telling you the version number

No probs at all - happy to!

If you need the update, just pm me and I'll email it to you.

I still don't see where they are hosting it online for downloads, so I just check in with them every now and then.

i have a question

i see Ultra Clears have IR model glasses and kids sizes too. Can i use an emitter with IR glasses on the 3D-XL? if so does the emitter have to go directly under my projector screen? and does it matter what emitter / glasses i use? like any emitter / IR glasses from bestbuy, or the ultra clears will work?

Does anyone know if the 3D-XL has been discontinued? I can not find it listed anywhere on the Optoma website. I wanted to download the manual.

There are still HDMI 1.3 3D projectors being released, as well as current owners that are eventually making the jump to 3D. So it's hard to phathom that it's been phased out.

On this particular update I don't know.

Previous updates have fixed various things from adding 24p support, to fixing certain problems users were having with SBS or over-under formats, as well as some gaming platforms.

Sorry I don't know more on this one - I'll put in an email to the fellow I talk to there and see what specifics I can get for this update.

On the whole tho, their updates have been very reliable. I've always updated as they come out and never had an issue, at least in my configuration.

I'll be updating to C07 this weekend - will report back.

I wasn't stating that I could not find one to buy, I was stating I could not find it listed on the Optoma website. When I try to search for it on the Optoma website, nothing turns up. It used to be listed under accessories/3D.

Well if it is being phased out, someone better buy a few - this thing would likely to go for big bucks on eBay if discontinued, as there's nothing quite like it from anywhere else..

That said, I don't get the feeling it is being discontinued.

I just bought a BenQ 3D Rdy projector and was looking at the Optoma 3DXL. In this process i stumbled on the VIP 3D Theater. I was wondering if this box would work just like the optoma 3DXL. If you havent heard of the VIP 3D Theater it basically makes 3D work on a non 3D TV. Any thoughts?

Hmmm, I've tried several times, pushing and holding the power button, but never saw a firmware box appear.

Also I thought if a HDMI 1.3 PJ was labeled 3D Ready, it meant it would work with either the 3D-XL or VP3D1.

I was told multiple times that the PLED-W500 was capable of 1280x720@120Hz over HDMI and would work with the VP3D1 by several Viewsonic reps.

I get the Optoma splash screen and 2D passes thru, letting me watch a movie ok. But, when I try to watch 3D Blu-ray, I get an "out of display range" with side by side selected.

I've tried to navigate support for an updated driver, but could not find one to download.

And yes, the PS3 is up to date and has been recently used for 3D Blu-ray playback, same for the HDMI cables.

So either Viewsonic lied, my 3D-XL is broke or I need a firmware update. Or?

You should NOT select side-by-side. The ps3 is framepacked.
Hook the viewsonic up to a computer and see if you can get it working at 720p120. Some projectors need a firmware update to work.

Random question:

Is there anyone here who has/can measure if there's any input lag caused by the 3DXLs? That is to say, has inserting a 3DXL between your source and your display increased the total delay and by how much?

Thanks.

No lag that I can see.

It splits each frame out on the fly - no buffering or image processing that would cause lag.

Good to know. Any chance you can do the rock band auto calibrating guitar option with and with out the 3DXL?

Hi guys just thought I'd let you all know of my discovery last with my 3DXL (although most of you have probably perfected the picture settings the way you like it anyways) I have seen some people asking for 'ideal setting' so I thought I'd post my findings.

I have always thought the colours were a bit weak along with blacks being crushed and whites not very white giving everything a very shall we say slightly 'muddy' look. So last night I went into my advanced setting and played around with the gamma & gain settings. I found by turning them all up to full levels that it fixed the problem really well. Blacks are now black, white are now white, detail (especially in foreground action) has dramatically improved and the colours have as well.

Best of all is that the contrast and brightness settings now actually do what they are supposed to be doing as opposed to just making things look muddy and losing valuable detail.

I found that after doing this and putting brightness on 43 and contrast on 40 I would now say that to me the picture is now perfect as opposed to ok or disappointing as it was before.
