Because I feel that my 55" 6500 with the new firmware is every bit as sharp as the active shutter Samsung that I look at at work every day. At this point I don't really see the black lines anymore (maybe I've gotten used to them?), but the active shutter glasses at work still give me a headache.

Like I said, both formats have their pros and cons. I personally prefer passive, but I respect how someone could prefer active and everyone should try both and decide for themselves. But I hope anyone trying passive gets to see the 240hz 55" with the new firmware so that the half resolution issue is at best eliminated or, as you may feel, mitigated.

I saw the 65" which i understand is 120hz. I must admit I have some doubt about what I think goes on. Maybe at high speed the brain puts the left and right eye image together to form a complete image without black lines. Also maybe the Bestbuy guy was blowing smoke out of his you know what when he assured me it was the latest firmware. I also admit it was nice to wear those glasses like sunglasses, look at other adjacent displays with the LG in the middle popping out at me.

jmj21grams, you have a way of calming me down.

Yeah, I'm very frustrated with the extremely limited selection of 3D BDs out there.

When I got my 65", it upgraded to the 4.whatever firmware when I first turned it on. I have not seen any motion artifacts or black lines in 2d or 3d except for one scene in tangled...the girl talked and I noticed black lines in her mouth for about half a second. That's it. On my previous LG 55LH90, I would see some motion artifacts from time to time...I always kept Trumotion off. Motion artifacts were way worse with Trumotion on. This set isn't nearly as bad with Trumotion on (in any setting, including various User modes), but I still ended up turning it off after a bit of experimenting.

I saw the same thing in Tangled on that one scene near the end. I wonder if that was a flaw in the original encoding.

This is a quick video from my iPhone to try to capture this tv. The clouding looks a lot worse from the video. I am still tweaking the settings.

With latest firmware on 65LW6500 Blu-ray 3D looks even better. So far played Resident Evil - Afterlife and it looks better than before. Also calibrated my 3D with new videoforge generator.

Honestly the TV is not a prize horse in 2D , but it makes up for it in 3D.

Tv is totally acceptable once a 11 point isf calibration is done. Manually adjusting is a waste of time. No way to get picture right without calibration. I can see why people were complaining. Especially with presets someone posted. Man were they off. Looks like they only did 2 point.

If you have this TV, do yourself a favor and calibrate using 11 point w/10% IRE increments.

Simply speaking... #1. The cheap glasses sold me on this vizio. #2. The VuDu app.
First night we fired up the 47" LG with active glasses, one pair broke.
$85 down the drain. Those active battery powered glasses are just too fragile.
And too expensive. Totally not worth it regardless of PQ.
As far as motion sickness, Avatar in the theater gave me a woozy feeling.
Active glasses viewing at home had no woozy effect on me.
Hope the passive vizio glasses work out.

Why is this in the Passive LW6500 thread? You're referring to a Vizio and Active LG. The 6500 isn't an Active set. Not sure what point you were trying to make in this thread?

1. Can some of you guys comment on the input lag difference using the new "full 1080p 3d" 200hz mode?

2. Also, i heard this Tv has relatively low input lag, 25 - 35, is that true in 3D mode as well?

Thanks for any help, this sounds like a great Tv for immersive gaming.

In order to try and eliminate input lag you have to use game mode and you certainly don't want to use 100 or 200Hz frane interpolation mode since they add processing time since they have to wait for the next input frame before creating any interpolated frames.

Your statement leaves me with more questions.

1. Isn't frame interpolation where the Tv actually creates a whole new image from two others? Wouldn't this be different?

2. Your saying this as an LW6500 owner using the new mode yes?

I want to make sure since i may order it as soon as today, but will get another Tv if the input lag is too high in this mode.

Anyone able to comment on input lag in the updated 3d mode?

hey robut.. have to, don't want, the thread, to lose your charm, wit and intellect..as to many of us this is an expensive investment. Many of us look to "honest" comparisons between active and passive panel and technology. Magi1500, I feel said it most accurate and concise. " pro's + con's" in both technologies," (see)/ "try them both" But, I also feel its hard in a retail environment, settings, clerks etc, to really compare and evaluate. So possibly, a relaxed home reviews of what other like/ dislike and see, along with the controled lab reviews and technical data of " pro" reviewers their tests and input help, at least for me.. "your" input on the positive quality's of an active panel balances the ' fanboy's observations ( and company shills?) ..tho straddleing the fence here, most of them just want to share their excitement with this awesome passive technology. ( my opinion and preference ) I want the vivid, vibrant ,rich color, deep blacks and rich contast and pop of your/ a samsung on a lg passive 3d panel ( lw9800 nano? , one can hope)

I tried the above settings for a while, and now have my cable box input set to dj 2, db 5 (first you have to set Tru-Motion to "user", which then gives access to the separate de-judder and de-blur settings).

On my Blu-ray input, I tried turning de-judder off completely (dj = 0, db = 5), but ended up just turning Tru-Motion off entirely for the blu-ray input. This may also be a function of how you set up the BD player - I have mine set to provide 24p output.

To be honest, I wasn't very scientific in my fiddling - I wasn't trying to replay the same scenes over and over while changing settings. And I don't think I'm very critical of blur-related issues - I just didn't like the soap opera effect with movies. And even with de-judder turned down a fair amount, I was still getting the SOE look on movies. So I turned everything off, and have been happy since then. (For me, it is color settings that I'm most sensitive to....)

what do you mean sending it ?? "Do you mean back " what " can't you get over" please elaborate... I would value, very much your criticism and opinion as this is a panel I am concidering... but you've lived with it ..I thought you said wife and children loved it" do you mean by "full" a full array, local dimming? So i'm guessing mura, light leakage on letterboxing?? Are your issues? Others? Help some of to not make an expensive mistake from your prospective .. thanks

Yes this set suffers from Clouding (MURA) along the left and right side of the display. Just put a black video pattern on the screen and you'll see it. It affects the black level even with proper calibration. I wish the Nano coated sets were available with Passive 3D prior to our purchase. I would hope there is less clouding with the Nano coated displays. We'll see. Speakers are shite too. But then again all TVs this thin would be similar. It sounds so hollow like soup cans connected via string.

That was quick- I called amazon this morning (Wed. July 19) to tell them that I wanted to return my set and before I knew it Pilot said that they have a guy in my area and it is gone... (I don't like how Pilot handles the TV- I carefully packed everything up and helped the guy carry the tv out to his hand cart- we had to hold the TV at the bottom since there were no straps around the two pieces- I saw as he had the tv on his hand cart that the box was coming apart- he didn't seem too concern- as long as amazon receives the tv in one piece. Before ordering the 65lw6500 I placed an order for a Samsung 64D7000, but it was delivered by Pilot with a huge crack on the screen)...

Ok the main reason I decided to send it back was because I started noticing a vertically line along the righthand side of the TV- I could really see it during a light solid background- I noticed it even more in 3d (I bought Under the Sea bluray and it was very noticeable)... I tried different settings and thought I could live with it, but then my wife notice it. It really didn't bother her that much but since this is the most expensive TV I ever purchased I don't think I should have to live with it...

I do like the idea of passive 3d and this set looked great when it was a bright colorful scene, but I feel this set was an afterthought for LG and should have had a different model number- when it is called a LW6500 it should have all the features of the smaller versions of this series...

I will be waiting for another 65" plus passive TV (Is LG going to make a Passive plasma?)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o_bq3HoUH-Y

I now need to live with a 47" Sony in the family room- I am not moving my 60" Sony out of my bedroom...
