Yeah, he doesn't watch for more then a few minutes. He spends most of the time pestering his sister and trying to take her glasses off. He also insists on wearing his glasses upside down!
Took the plunge! Got the 42 inch for $680 in stock on amazon(free shipping and no taxes), should be arriving next week! Upgrading from a 26" tube tv!
The 32 inch is only $500 but I consider 120hz and 10 inch upgrade to be worth it for $180 more. I was tempted by the 47 incher but 5 inches and an hdmi port wouldn't be worth $200 for my needs.
I was really tempted by the lg 47lw5600 but that's at least $600 more, though 2d to 3d and LEDs would be nice. I'm not very picky so I doubt it would be worth it for me, I'd rather use that money to load up on some 3d movies/games.
I'm downloading 3d demos on my 360. Once PSN comes back we will be able to pick 2 games out of a few, on that list wipeout and super stardust both are 3d. There are also many 3d demos for the ps3, so hopefully it comes back soon so I can preload them before it arrives.
Purchased a 32" Vizio passive 3d hdtv from wal mart 10 days ago. I saw Monster House 3d blu ray. The picture was perfect. I sat 6 feet away. I also puchased the the Panasonic 110 and converted 2d to 3d versions of star wars dvd, lord of the rings blu ray, wizard of oz blu ray, sound of music blu ray, monsters vs aliens blu ray, alice in wonderland blu ray, charlies angels dvd and kill bill dvd. The best conversions were:sound of music, monsters vs aliens, alice in wonderland and kill bill. The others were fine, but not as good as the best. The 3d blu ray was outstanding.
My conversions consisted of different scenes from the movies. I had no headaches or eye strain as the active glasses gave me when I was researching the 3d tvs.
To get perfect 3d you have to sit eye level to the tv and follow the viewing instructions in the manual.
An assistant manager of best buy told me that the store doesn't carry vizio because agreements with panasonic, sony, samsung and lg prohibits sale of vizio. The electronic manager of wal mart told me vizio out sells all other brands combined. The wal mart where I live has had to reorder the vizio 47", 42" and 32" 3d tvs three times because of sell outs.
I'm hoping this line of tvs has a good following due to all the sales. That generally means we can get firmware updates later in its lifespan. Video playback from usb would be nice but not needed as many devices and game systems already do it.
Would you believe I got the 47" today at Walmart for $600? For a 3D TV, simply could not not buy it. For some reason it was marked as clearance, I think they goofed.
Yup. The 42's were regular price as well. Definately a goof on their part. I was going to wait to read some more professional reviews/tests but could not pass up saving $300.
As a PC monitor it's not as good as my sammy 40" LCD was; you can see the horizontal black lines in text. 2D bluRay is good, 3D is also good. You can see stairstepping on horizonal angles but otherwise the "540p" per eye issue is largely overblown so far IMO. Watched RE:Afterlife last night and was impressed by the detail. I was expecting the softness from the hometheatrereview writeup but did not see it.
I have a request. Can ya'll take a look at the 2 minute preview of Drive Angry on Vudu and tell me if you get a disorientating white flash during the quick edits between scenes? This is my first foray into 3D and am wondering what causes that. It looks like only one eye is seeing the edit flash.

Well, i'm not seeing exaxtly what you seem to be seeing. The edits are annoying, but the flash isn't very hard.
Basically, hard edit action movies made bad 3D movies. The human mind needs to be eased between scenes. In 2D it's just annoying, to some, for edits to flash back and forth. In 3d it can give you a gripping headache and lead to all sorts of visual processing errors.

That's what I figured. I guess I described it badly, it looks like only one eye is catching the flash so both aren't seeing the cut correctly. very irritating, still the 3d effect in that trailer was very impressive.
When in channel mode, how do you get the tv channel guide to come up? I used to be able to get it by pressing the guide button, but now that does the same thing as the info button. Was great when it worked.
Value wise I'd give it a 9 out of 10. Since amazon only has 1 to 5 I rounded up to a 5, its hard to find a newly released tv, let alone 3d tv with it's features at this price. Picture wise CCFL's have their limits with contrast and backlight uniformity, but buying it I expected it's limitations. Perfectionists are going to want led or another technology.
Just one question... how close to the TV can you comfortably sit in 3D mode without really losing quality due to the retarder? I've read that the manual suggests six feet, but I was hoping to be able to get a little closer. Thanks for your thoughtful review.
I'm at about 5' from a 47" as my PC monitor. Depends on how you define "losing quality." You lose some cause it's passive but then again you've got 3D for cheap ($600 in my case).
I can sit as close as 4 ft from my 42" without noticing the lines much if any, when I get less than that to around 3 you can see the interlacing effect. I sit at 5-6ft to get the most out of the tv size, resolution, and 3d effect.
I'm considering a htpc but want one that will support 3d through hdmi not vga. Did you try 3d gaming on it? if so how did you set it up?

The only time the interlacing annoys me is in the text on websites and such. Playing games I don't even notice it - watching blu ray neither.
I've tried nvidia's 3DPlay, but it only works at 1024x720 which is just sad. Other games that natively support it are great. Crysis 2 (PC) @ 1920x1080 is superb. Watched a 3D trailer for Uncharted 3 on PS3 - also outstanding.
Also, others note that this vizio doesn't do 2D-3D movie conversion, well I'm trying to get cyberlink's powerDVD 10, it's supposed to do conversion and at $75 a heck of a lot cheaper than buying the LG passive set.

You can also get a blu-ray player that does 2d-3d, Panasonic has 3 that will do this. On amazon you can get the cheapest without wifi for $115 http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-DMP-.../dp/B004LNFJCQ . The panasonic's also have a mail in offer for free 3d avatar!
I just wish the ps3 had the features it had, it could easily handle it with the cpu it has. Come on Sony!

Finally tried cyberlink's powerdvd 10 Ultra. It does 2d-3D conversion. I had an earlier OEM version so was able to upgrade for $75. I was only disappointed that it can't upconvert blu-ray 2d, only DVD 2D. As for the actual conversion, it does work and adds depth which you can adjust via a slider. Nothing really pops out at you but as I said it does add depth. One other advantage, to me it seems the 2d conversion combined with passive interlacing increases the contrast and sharpness of standard def pictures. My opinion only and it could be a perception issue, but there it is.
Anyone experiencing some bad motion blur with the 47" unit? I've had this set for a few days now and like it, except I ran into some bad blurring last night watching the Yankees/Indians game. When they were throwing the ball from the outfield, it looked like a comet passing by. This was with all the motion flow stuff off.

Just received the 32 in from amazon yesterday. Like the tv, but I am having problems connecting it to my wireless router. Just wondering if anyone else had any issues. My router is an old Buffalo wireless G. The tv see the router and asks for the passphrase. I must have entered the passphrase 30 times. It just keeps saying unable to connect.
