I wanted to revert to an older firmware version, since I figure that may explain why those who bought the TV before didn't seem to have an issue. However, I couldn't find any firmware versions, new or old, online. :/
In hindsight it definitely isn't enough to return the TV. But at the time I was experiencing 3D at home for the first time and felt it was a must have for games. I've heard people say that gaming is where 3D is really worth it, but in my experience it has been movies, not games. I tried Uncharted 3, Wipout HD, Killzone 3, Shadow of Colossus, Batman Arkham City and one more I can't remember. After the initial "it's new and shiny!" feeling, I didn't feel that 3D added much to any of them. Although you may find it funny that I thought Shadow of Colossus did 3D the best. Possibly because you didn't lose any quality because it is an older game.
The thing with the 51" Samsung Plasma (PN51E550D) is that it's only $300 more than the 42" Vizio, and $150 more than the 47" Vizio. And it has 2D to 3D conversion on top of a larger screen and superior black levels. Other than not having 2D to 3D conversion (which I hardly ever feel is worth using), the Vizio's 3D is superior to the Samsung's. Perhaps I just prefer the look and feel of passive over active 3D. But there was no crosstalk problems with the Vizio, and tons with the Samsung. I've now fixed the brightness popping issue with the Samsung, and I can even live with the 3D crosstalk. But the noise is a deal breaker.
As for the Samsung's black level...I do prefer watching television in a lit room, so I wonder if I'd be able to tell a difference in black level between the two TV's side by side.
There's so much to consider when buying a TV!
Anyway, if anyone can please comment on whether or not game mode works in 3D with their E3Dxx0VX, I'd be most appreciative.
