Sorry for the double post - I initially posted in the "LCD display" forum, but this one seems to be more appropriate:

I am starting this thread since the LW5600 & LW6500 thread does not cover those bundles.
According to the LG website those have different specifications, the LW5300 supposedly has half the contrast of the LW5600 model.
This thread is supposed to discuss those displays, for example how those differ from the LW5600 series, about input lags measured or perceived and alike.

The bundle is sold at large scale during 2011 Black Friday sales, so a fair number of people will be interested in it.

Who has information or questions - post here.

Personally I am interested to find out if the panel in that series is in fact the same as in the LW5600 series and/or it is just marketing or firmware that makes claims about the difference in dynamic contrast or if there is a real difference in the quality of the panel.

I purchased the 47lw5300 for my son as a Christmas present. Amazon was selling it for $799. I ordered it on Friday and it was delivered today (Tuesday). I purchased it based on the strong reviews it receieved at Best Buy and Amazon. If the picture is close to the 47lw5600 this will be a great deal. I don't see how you can go wrong at $800 for a 47" LG LED with a 4 million dynamic contrast ratio. Time will tell.

Thanks i am interested as well. Tuesday i purchased this on Amazon and its now in route to me. I was looking everywhere for the thread and didnt find it. As far as i understand, online it indicates that the LW5300 is the same as the LW5600 except it doesnt have the Smart TV suite and the contrast ratio is lower.

ill post again next week with my thoughts after i calibrate it.

I have the LG 55LW5600 and a lot of people talk about how bad the lag is and that is understandable. I need to have good response to play games like Street Fighter IV and so on. Changing the label to pc helps with this but imo the best tv to get that has passive and has faster input than LG is the Toshiba Passive 3DTV.

Butmuncher from one of my threads has posted his details of this and he has used all of the LG Cinema 3Ds from 2010 models to 2011 and has found the Toshiba Passive is the best in terms of least input lag.

I would have bought that tv instead now knowing what I know. Just to pass it on. Oh and if anybody has interest in 3d gaming on the pc, now is a good time with multiple solutions to support 3d gaming with 1080/60Hz Line Interleaved.

TV and DVD is great to me, it is a good value for the tv. The reason I like the tv though is I am getting 1080i and 720p channels over air. I'm not sure how this would look with cable.

Missed the Amazon bundle price for the 47", kinda bummed. Hope it comes back. Tiger Direct had it higher but then they also charge shipping, and are a hassle to deal with.

Someday maybe I'll actually WATCH my projector...

I am interested in buying a 55lw5600. Unfortunately, that model is not on sale on Black Friday. Most stores have 55lw5300 on sale instead. I am tempted to get 55lw5300, since I do not really need Smart TV. What concerns me is the contrast ratio of 55lw5300, which is only half of 55lw5600. Has anyone done a comparison of the picture quality between 5300 and 5600? My local BestBuy only has 5600 on display. Thanks!

Would anyone mind posting their color settings for the 47LW5300?

The picture is amazing, just trying to find a good color calibration. Thanks!

Bought the 55LW5300 over the weekend and when we went to BestBuy there were 2 LG Rep's in store. I asked about differences between the 5300 and 5600 and they swear its the same panel just the smart tv functionality is non existant in the 5300. Just an FYI, we have a Samsung plasma with active glasses and i got headaches and had issues with Crosstalk and the glasses losing sync. No crosstalk or headaches so far that i've experienced with the LG. Great picture after calibrating, colors are great, no ghosting, very happy overall.

Also i read some of the discussions on the forum regarding active vs passive 3d tech, it seem's LG has done somet things to improve their passive 3d functionality, there was a firmware update that changed how behavior, here is an excerpt:

"Before the Cinema 3D technology worked like this: During a time period of 1/200 seconds the TV showed 2 frames; 540 lines for the left eye and 540 lines for the right eye.
The new algorithm shows 4 frames instead of 2 during the 1/200 second time frame. It shows 1080i for the left eye and 1080i for the right eye.

When these are combined the two pictures create a 1080p picture according to LG. LG believes that this update improves picture quality on their Cinema 3D TVs to compete directly with the active 3D TVs such as 3D plasma TVs. You need to turn off TruMotion to utilize the new algorithm. See the illustration below."

I'm not nearly as techy as some of the folks on this forum so please forgive me if this doesnt make sense or is inaccurate. I will say the image quality on our TV which shipped with a 3.x firmware was not very good until updated tp 5.x in 3d content, but the update changed things drastically.

Image quality actually seems better than our 3D Samsung Plasma, the model is a 2010, I'd have to pull it up but cant remember it offhand, no discernable drop off from the panel being a passive panel, we prefer it now over the other set.

was that for the LW6500 series (240 hz)?
Is the firmware update even available for the LW5300 series?

I have a question about the picture setting hope some one can help
I want to use the calibration settings posted for lw5600
such as this: www. hometheater.com/content/lg-55lw5600-3d-lcd-hdtv-settings

I have no problem with the 2D settings

However I cannot find how to adjust settings for 3D mode.
when viewing 3D video, neither the home button or Q.menu work.
it only says "this function is not available now"
pressing 3D setting button, I can only adjust 3D depth and viewpoints. no way to adjust things like brightness, contrast etc

anyone can help me on this? I have done my search but not finding anything

I have gone through as well, and cant find anything other than what you have described,

some people have said this tv is excatly the same as the 5600 except it doesnt carry the smart tv portion, but i dont thin kthats the only difference i think the panel is different in the fact you cant change the 3d picture settings,

i havent given up hope in finding away, i just got the tv yesterday, but so far i have goner through everything i thin ki can including updating the firmware and no go,

i can't find a way to change settings while in 3D either.

i also can't find a good zoom feature that will crop and get rid of the black bars while watching wide screen movies.

Thanks for confirming, however I don't think it is a panel problem but rather a software problem, or may be there is a trick to turn the setting on. Or may be 5600 cannot set 3D picture setting either.

Through the Ez-adjust hidden menu, (please search openlgtv.org.ru to learn how to turn it on), I have enabled the THX and now there are THX setting for pictures to select, but there is still no way to turn on the 3D THX that 5600 can do.

I'm thinking it's the same panel as the 5600 as well. Only difference seems to be the Smart TV functionality. So the same panel, with different software.

Big thing for me is that the 5300 has local dimming!

It's a great deal at this price if you don't need the smart TV apps.

I gave up and bought the 5600 instead with the Newegg coupon. Came out to a decent price and the extra flexibility of settings looks good. Still wish I'd grabbed the 5309 deal

I can't for the life of me find any options to change the audio track. I am playing an MKV file off a hard drive and its playing in french which is track 3. Not sure why it would default to track 3... How do I change this?

Ok i found it in set video play. It's under Audio Language, 1,2 or 3. Tracks 2 and 3 are a different language. When I play this file on my computer, track 1 is english and it works fine. When I select track 1 on the tv, it's just silence!

I have this set (47) for few days now so I want to post some comments and maybe help others: To connect to PC you should use HDMI3 and label it PC to lower input lag, you wont be able to use most of the picture adjustments, but those are redundant and can be set on the computer. At least my TV with factory firmware uses chroma subsampling 4 2 2 not PC chroma 4 4 4, therefore text is not as sharp as it should be, hope they fix it soon.
DTS audio is not supported by TV player, so anything using DTS can't be played directly from USB.
There are other codec/playability issues, but this one sticks out.
My TV came with energy saving on and picture was horrible, it took me a while to figure that you can't turn it off from menu, you need to press energy button on the remote to change it to off.
In normal TV mode, this set has 100-130 ms video processing delay, if you're using external sound system, depending on your wiring you may have to compensate with audio delay to sync video and audio.
In general I like this TV, even if I'm still trying to find the right settings and workarounds, but the biggest bummer for me is chroma subsampling in PC mode. Without any internet capability neither on TV nor BR player, it's almost mandatory to hook it up to computer, but it doesn't look as good as it should. Why would they cut color info in half before displaying.

I bought this tv 10 days ago and just love it. My PS3 3D video games are unbelievable. Black Ops is trully incredible looking, and I can see farther away on the maps than ever before. I see the guys way off in the distance. I have viewed several free programs that Cox offers with their digital tv package and they are incredible. I can not believe that there is absolutely no ghosting whatever to be seen.

I cant believe people are complaining about the color of the glasses. I could care less about that. You can propably buy five pair of black ones from some guy at work with kids for 20 bucks.

Truly incredible 3d picture.

As for the 2d conversion, I would say it depends on what channell and program you are watching. Try watching "Rock Stars" on Nat Geo Wild channell. This show does the 2d yo 3d conversion really well.

I tried to watch football and basketball in the conversion mode. Thats a lost cause. It looks like the players are skating on ice about 3 feet above the ground. Also I was suprised at how much truly free 3d content their is out there right now. I watched "Despicable Me" and can truly say it looked as good as it did at the theater!!

I really havent watched much regular HD yet, so I really wont comment on that.

HINT: The only adjustment you can make while watching 3d is the 3d depth.
The other 3d adjustment above that one is only for viewing 2d to 3d conversion.

exactly, you cannot adjust detail 3D picture setting, when it switches to 3D, it automatically goes to 'standard' settings.

I heard that the 5600 allow you to do that, but a person I know who have 5600 also claim he can only adjust depth in there.

I had the 55LW5300 for a few days then brought it back and got the 55LW5600 (for $400 less then I paid for the 5300 bundle) and couldn't be happier. Besides the lower contrast ratio and no smart tv on the 5300 a few other things I noticed were:

Better remote for the 5600 with lighted buttons (also you get the pointer remote)
Picture uniformity seems much better on the 5600
There is a clear plastic border around the 5600's bezel which adds a nice touch
4 hdmi inputs on the 5600 all facing the side vs 3 on the 5300 and some facing back
Also I like the menu layout better on the 5600

I've been playing around with the picture settings for weeks on my 47 5300 and I've finally just gave up and ordered this remote to enable THX.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000N2...dir_mdp_mobile

The THX bright room setting is perfect. I've updated my firmare to 5.0 as well, since the original firmware was 3 something. I'm not sure what improvements were made, but this is one great tv.

The glasses are the exact same ones that they use at your local multiplex that show 3D movies. I've tested them out side by side.

I still wish we could adjust the 3D settings when it's playing. Hopefully a future update will fix that.
