I am buying a new tv in febraruy when the new models come out. I would like a 65" led LCD from Samsung but they cost too much, so unless there's a massive price drop I can't get one of those. I have about $3000 for a 65" tv. What should I get. Let me know if you have foreknowledge of the 2012 models that come out soon. I have my DVR set to record CES on Spike so maybe I'll see something there.

New models in the 65" range usually come out last and much later in the year. Maybe a new version of the Panasonic 65" will be out in March or April. You can get a VT30 for about that right now if you know where to shop. Keep an eye on CES postings, which start tomorrow.

If I didn't care about the weight or heat generation or energy costs over the long run, I'd pull the trigger for a plasma since the prices are really good.

They're not that bad. My energy costs have not increased since I bought my 65" plasma as compared to my 65" DLP.

Do you plan on going hiking with the TV on your back?

What heat? Have you felt a 65D8000 series Samsung? Those things cook (and the PQ sucks).

Drink one less Starbucks coffee a month and you'll actually save money over LCD (they are all LCDs btw) in the long run!

For the record, I have two plasmas, an LED based (full array w/LD) LCD and CCFL LCD.
