Hi all, long time reader, first time poster.

I got a projector "Optoma TX615-3D" I believe it has 3D capabilities because
  • The word "3D" is in it's part number!
  • Says so in manual
  • 3D options in OSD
  • Says so in Optoma's website
  • I verified it can accept a 120Hz refresh rrate, and I see it detected 1024x768 @ 120Hz incoming signal.

My question is... How do you watch 3D on this?! confused.gif

I have NVIDIA GeForce 680 graphics card and the Optoma zd201 D-Link, active shutter glasses. I understand this projector is not on NVIDIA 3D Vision compatibility list, but shouldn't there be another way to watch 3D other than through NVIDIA? I mean I have all the capable hardware. How do I watch a movie, say a video with side by side 3D, and show up as 3D via 60Hz per eye on the projector?

BTW, I don't own a PS3 or XBOX360, not going to do 3D that way.

I've couldn't find an answer on the internets. This is my last hope.

You need an Optoma 3D-XL and a source such as a 3D bluray player. The 3D-XL will process the side by side3d videos for you and send it to the projector where you can enable dlp-link and use your dlp link glasses. If it's not on the compatability list to use NVIDIA 3D VISION it might not work, butyou could use 3d stereoscopic player for side by side 3d on your pc.

Thanks for the reply. I was afraid of that because the 3D-XL is another ~$300 which I don't plan on spending.

On related note, I believe 3D-XL is purely software in a box since the TX615-3D is hardware capable of 3D. I believe the 3D-XL doesn't "add" 3D capability, it only changes a signal into a method that the TX615-3D can understand as 3D. Wouldn't it then be possible to have an 3D-XL emulator via PC? Does that software exist?

You could also try the iZ3d player with your DLP glasses(I'm assuming you have some glasses) or do you have the nvidia 3D vision glasses??

For bluray frame packed 3d the 3D-XL takes the hdmi 1.4 signal and converts it to hdmi 1.3 which your projector can understand. I know of no software that can do this and the only other converter I know of is the viewsonic vp3d1 which is cheaper than the 3D-XL at $200 or less. Another option you can use is the monoprice 3d creator it processes SBS using hdmi and also converts 2d to 3d, but it can't process bluray 3d frame packed.

Page 31 of your user manual shows 3D Display options.

http://www.optomausa.com/webresources/files/support/a3b296c76423486494f6b03d858257bc.pdf

It appears that the PJ will accept frame sequential 3D most likely in 720p format over HDMI from the Nvidia 3D player software or the iZ3d player.

Did you ever get this to work? I have the TX615-3D as well and a Viewsonic VP3D1, but I cannot get it to do 3D. Whenever I activate the SBS 3D button, I can hear my color wheel ramp up and start spinning really fast and then the projection goes white.
