This chip, for example, is 1.3 and supports 3D over HDMI, as well as HBR Audio (Dolby True HD and DTS-HD) and Deep Color.

"The SiI9134 is an advanced HDMI® 1.3 transmitter..."

"In addition to supporting advanced HDMI 1.3 video features, the SiI9134 supports 3D over HDMI in the HDMI 1.4 specification...".

I see in the manual you can force a 3D Blu-ray to play in 3D mode, whether or not the display reports that it's 3D capable. Perhaps this just might let the 3D signal pass through an older receiver?

It only speculation either way at the moment. Hopefully we'll get someone with the Samsung player to test it in forced 3D mode with an HDMI 1.3 AVR. Maybe the video won't go through without a firmware update, but it would be interesting to know if the AVR will extract the audio (from the HDMI 1.3 spec it looks like audio packets can be identified without knowing what the video format is).

Sent an Email to Silicon Image through one of their distributors asking this question. Hopefully they will respond.

Samsung 3D BD Player HDMI 1.3?

SiI9134 HDMI® Transmitter

http://www.siliconimage.com/products...t.aspx?pid=102

So according to SI's specs - Yes - the Samsung 6900 3D BD player could have a HDMI 1.3 TX chip in it and still pass the Frame Packed 1920x2205 3D video from a 3D BD
