Sony Creative Software Releases New Update for Vegas Pro
Award-Winning NLE Improves Closed Captioning, Adds Support for GPU Rendering on AMD ATI Graphic Chipsets, and Adds 3D Blu-ray Disc Timeline Burning Capability for Complete 3D Solution
Monday, April 11, 2011

LAS VEGAS [NAB Show - Booth #C11001] Sony Creative Software, a leading provider of professional video and audio editing applications, today announced the availability of Vegas Pro 10.0d. The award-winning NLE now includes improved closed captioning options, comprehensive 3D solutions, support for AMD's ATI graphics chipsets using OpenCL as well as an improved track group workflow.

Vegas Pro 10.0d's enhanced closed captioning support now provides broadcast editors with the ability to read and write closed captioning embedded in MPEG-2, enabling a unified workflow for EIA-608, EIA-708 and MXF delivery options. Furthering the software's superior editing flexibility, Vegas Pro 10.0d incorporates timeline burning to full-frame 3D Blu-ray Discs. These updates allow media creators to efficiently produce and quickly prepare content for DVD and 3D Blu-ray titles and deliver compelling content for broadcast and broadband distribution, theatrical releases and YouTube 3D.

"Sony Creative Software continues to innovate with industry-leading solutions for creative professionals who work with closed captioning and 3D technology," said Dave Chaimson, vice president of global marketing for Sony Creative Software. "The new enhancements in Vegas Pro 10.0d, especially the OpenCL render improvements to support the AMD ATI graphic chipsets, provide cutting edge tools that equip industry professionals with improved capabilities to produce quality work at a greater efficiency."

Vegas Pro 10.0d expands its GPU accelerated AVC encoding support to video editing professionals using AMD ATI graphics chipsets which support OpenCL, the open standard for parallel programming of heterogeneous systems. This new feature enables faster project rendering in many cases when using the Sony AVC encoder for a more efficient workflow. Additional updates include MVC and MPO 3D file format compatibility from Sony cameras including TD10, NX3D1, TD300 and the Alpha and NEX series, providing users with added support for advanced camera and media technologies.

"We are very encouraged to see that Sony Creative Software has adopted OpenCL standards and support for AMD Fusion technology to enable powerful solutions to meet the ever-growing demands of creative professionals," said Manju Hegde, corporate vice president, AMD Fusion Experience Program (NYSE:AMD). "At AMD we believe that industry standards like OpenCL are key to advancing innovation, helping creative professionals to rely on and fully leverage available computing power on a common industry platform to bring inspiration to reality."

New Features in Vegas Pro 10.0d

* GPU Accelerated AVC Encoding Support Expanded to AMD Adds support for users with AMD ATI graphics chipsets which support OpenCL to use the Sony AVC encoder for faster project rendering
* 3D MVC and MPO File Format Support Additional native support for emerging MVC and MPO 3D file formats provides continued functionality with cutting edge camera and media technology (Sony cameras that support these formats include: TD10, NX3D1, TD300, and the Alpha and NEX series)
* 3D Blu-ray Disc Timeline Burning New burning capability allows users to burn full HD 3D Blu-ray Discs onto BD-R/BD-RE media, providing editors with a complete ingest, edit and delivery option for 3D media
* Support for the XDCAM PMW-500 Camera Supports both optical (XDCAM Optical) and memory (XDCAM EX) formats
* Enhanced Closed Captioning Improved closed caption integration allows users to read and write closed captioning embedded within MPEG2 streams, enabling a common workflow for CEA-608, CEA-708 and MXF delivery options
* Improved Track Grouping Workflow Improvements to track grouping include new mute/solo technology to help users isolate and work with specific tracks while mixing

bigbarney-

Are you here at the show? Sony put on quite a party this evening. Food was quite good and plenty to spare.

The 10d upgrade will be great. I plan to get more 3D editing instruction tomorrow. Learning quite a bit from the experts.

Well I hate to say it but it remains to be seen if this works with the JVC cam. Sony listed it's own cams for supporting MVC and I'm not at all sure the JVC MVC is the same. It was much the same when avchd first came out. There were a few different variations of it and for the first 6 months or so Vegas only worked on the Sony variation. Time will tell I guess.

Did anyone ask directly if it would work with the JVC? Someone surely knows one way or the other since the JVC 3D camcorder has been out and available for some time now.

Sony rep for Vegas asked me for a sample file shot on the JVC camcorder several weeks ago. But we'll see, fingers crossed.

Hopefully this upgrade will allow importing MVC files from the JVC and outputting separate left and file files in addition to rendering frame compatible side by side 60I/P in MVC format.

Did IQ's suddenly drop sharply while I was away?
I enjoy 3D in spite of HDMI 1.4!
Full screen only 3D doesn't cut it!

Frank- everything you want it will do except I'm not sure about JVC files if the JVC deviates from what the Sony expects to see. You'll know when the 20th rolls around. I do know that your two camera system will love the new 3D stereo calibration effect. Note- I don't think 60P is a standard format for 3D display is it?

More RUMOR from the Sony reps at NAB-

Currently if you want to create a BD-RW that will play in any 3D Blue Ray Player you will need to use Vegas 10.0d and burn the time line to disk from within Vegas. This produces a movie that will play automatically. So I had to ask, off the record, what about DVD Architect support so we can set up menus for an authored product. The answer was that current 3D cannot be authored in the current version of DVD Architect, but... the next version... Then he said read between the lines. I assume from this that Sony's next release of Vegas Pro will include something we can author a 3D Blu Ray disk. He then said don't expect the power of Blue Print but rather 3D with a cut down look like present DVD Architect.
That will be nice since we will have a burn from the timeline for quick review of a project, then author in DA for a saleable product.

Should know on the 20th when the 10.0d version is said to be out but last word was that the JVC was not specifically listed. That doesn't mean it won't work but no one I spoke with at VASST group and Sony knew about the JVC output working in Vegas 10.0.d

I am really hoping Sony has made it work with the JVC. It would suck if they only made it work with their own camera only... They have to realize others out there use other brands as well!

I am waiting for this as I have numerous HD 3D videos wanting to be on blu-ray!

That would be crap, but typical of Sony to make something work only for their own products. They don't seem to realize there are other brands people use. I paid enough as it is for Vegas Pro and expect it to support other brands formats not just Sony for the high price I paid...
If it isn't able to work with the JVC I will be very disapointed. I have been waiting and waiting for something to be able to edit the full HD 3D files and was expecting Vegas to be that program for me since I know how to use it best. So anyone from Sony that reads this forum, MAKE THIS WORK WITH THE JVC CAM AS WELL PLEASE....

That's not really a fair statement at all. Sony Vegas supports just about EVERY cam out there... not just their own.

IF Vegas does not support the JVC cam out of the starting gate.. then it will at some point down the road. Their immediate concern as it should be however, is to make sure their cams work with their editing products first... THEN the others later.

I really don't think this has anything to do with those "big Bad Sony People" supporting only their own... but rather a simple matter of proper priority. I don't think there is another company alive that would handle something like this any differently.

To top it all off... nobody twisted your arm in buying the JVC instead of a Sony cam in the first place, knowing FULL well that JVC didn't and doesn't offer anything in the way of editing software.

No someone did twist my arm... J/K

I went with the JVC because the specs sounded better and I am very happy I did.

I understand Sony is all about supporting their own cams and I agree they should be. I'm just an impatient one wanting a solution now and Vegas is what I like to use. So I am hoping it supports the JVC.
