Where are you reading out this difference of 5.1 versus surround? 5.1 is a type of "surround."
If you have a readout on your audio amplifier, perhaps you can see if there is a difference between A) playing the bluray and B) playing from the USB port from the WD drive connected (TD10 copied files) or C) from the camcorder connected. Does your amp have a display of the format of the audio signal being played, and if so, does it say there is a difference when the same recording is played these 3 different ways. Please ensure you are using the same recording content. That is, the same exact file you first recorded to the memory in the TD10, then copied to the WD drive, and also used PMB to burn on a bluray.
It may not be any real difference at all. According to the media-info, the original TD10 files use 448kbps AC-3 6 channels. This is 5.1 meaning ;left, center, right, left surround, right surround, and sub-woofer. This one of many variations of what is called "surround sound."
I am technically digging deeper into all of this.
Thank you for telling us about the S780 usb playback, and also thank you especially to markr041, and to everyone else that is contributing to this thread.
