I've been using a Sony Bloggie 3D MHS-FS3 for a week or so now. Main issue I am trying to solve right now is viewing video on a Visio M3D460SR HDTV. I have been using the TV for a little longer, and am very impressed with the image quality and features. 3D is also quite impressive in particular with good Blu-ray IMAX type material.

The issue I have with the Bloggie 3D is that I cannot get the camera to output 3D video when connected to the set via HDMI. This is the easiest way to get video from the camera, but when I connect the cable the camera goes to 2D mode and there is no 'switch' to change this. I presume that there is some signal or handshake process with the 3D capable HDTV that would trigger the camera into 3D mode, but I could be mistaken. I can change the Visio to 3D SBS, TB or Sensio modes manually, but this does nothing when the camera output is not 3D. I can see on the viewfinder what the camera is doing and it's 2D with the HDMI connected, regardless if it's connected to the TV or not.

I don't like to think that the camera is only compatible with Sony and certain other manufacturers as there is nothing in the marketing materials to indicate that, but it wouldn't probably be a first for Sony to be proprietary. I have inquired with Sony and Visio and the lack of response from Sony in particular is not encouraging. Perhaps, they just don't know what to say about it. I was told via support chat to go ask Visio. If it's something in the software end on the TV side that needs to communicate with the camera, there could be a firmware fix but I think that's a long shot.

Bottom line is it would be useful to know how many using the MHS-FS3 are watching 3D on a 3D HDTV and which model(s) work properly. This could save folks from investing in a camera that may not work with their new HDTV.
