PS3 3D output modes

Hi.

I'm looking to take the 3D plunge. However, I'm fairly certain my AV receiver is not 3D ready.

I use my PS3 for Blu-Ray and gaming.

Can I force the PS3 to output side-by-side or top-bottom for now until I can replace the AV Receiver? I'm thinking that once I also get a new receiver I can pass-thru full frame-packed 3d.

I haven't yet bought a 3D TV, but I'd like to lessen the blow as much as possible

Thanks

You might get 3D games to play but never 3D blu-ray without bypassing the reciever

I just run digital optical cable from ps3 to my old school dolby digital 5.1 only avr, hdmi to display. It does the job for now.

Thanks for the replies.

Sounds like I'll need to go PS3 -> TV via HDMI directly

And PS3 -> AVR via TOSLINK

This means that the best surround sound I can possibly get is old-fashioned DolbyDigital or DTS. I think maybe my hearing isn't good enough to notice anyway

Thanks again!
